BSOD with more than one stick of RAM

This problem has followed me to a fresh Windows 8 install, but occurred when I was running Windows 7. Basically, if I have more than one stick of RAM inserted, the system will not wake from hibernate/standby, but bluescreens. It doesn't make any difference which RAM slots are used, but putting one stick in any slot results in no problem, and a totally stable system.

RAM passes memtest with two sticks or individually. I suppose the most likely culprit is the motherboard, but just wanted to see if anyone had a second opinion before I confine myself to only having one stick of memory

Edit: should add that I'm using a AMD Phenom II X2 555, but I have unlocked two extra cores to a reoprted AMD Phenom II X4 B55. I'm also running mildly overclocked HD5770s in crossfire, but the problem occurred before I added/tweaked those.

The minidumps show generic memory corruption.

Lock down the extra cores. Maybe they were not validated to be X4 because of a problem in the memory management.
Update bios
UNDERCLOCK your system
Run memtest from hcidesign.com AND memtest86
Run driver verifier
Change cpu
Change mainboard
Use GPU on chipset/CPU. Take out the Discrete GPUS.

These steps are just for diagnostics!

to the OP; You do understand that unlocking core is not warranty to work, if you want 4 cores, get a 4 cores CPU. now if you have the same problem with your CPU on 2 cores, give us the exact model of RAM and the exact model of motherboard and BIOS version
