Driver Power State Failure Messages and constant crashing since upgrad

I upgraded my spiffy trouble free VAIO F a couple of days ago and have had nothing but trouble since. 4 or many more times per day I get a message Driver_Power_State_Failure and then my computer restarts. I would add dump file information but I am not sure how to even do that. I may just need to wipe my computer and go back to Windows 7, but thought I would look for help here first. Any help would be appreciated...Jack

I had this problem. I solved it by getting rid of the free AVG anti-virus software. I'd had to move to this software because my favoured free AV, Avira, didn't support Windows 8. Removing AVG means that since that time (5 days ago) I haven't had a single BSOD, with the computer constantly on, whereas I was having 5 or 6 reboots per day immediately before.

I thought it might have been a dodgy battery - I knew my battery was failing anyway - so I replaced this as well. But the new one didn't arrive till two days after I'd removed AVG and in those two days I hadn't had a BSOD anyway.

So check any programs that install on boot, would be my suggestion.

PS The revised Windows Defender seems to suffice as an AV anyway, now.

No AVG Installed but I do have Norton

I don't have AVG installed - the computer that I upgraded has Norton. My battery seems to be in fine working order - although since the upgrade, the message that I used to get when I restarted my system, a message about my battery status being good, no longer shows up. Not sure at all what that means. Appreciate any help. I am wading thru this issue as best I can...Jack

I thank all those who have tried to help. It must be understood, however, that the BSOD can have many causes and trying to resolve the problems of another based upon the BSOD experienced by yourself or someone else is rarely the soltution. That being said, the apparent cause in this situation seems to be an Intel driver. Update the driver by going to the Intel site. You can select automatically scan for and update all out of date drivers.

Usually the reports give various causes, yours were consistent. Try to go to search by the stat button, type device manager and then see if you can install the prior version.

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you are suggesting that I do. If you can lay out the process with more detail, I will do my best to follow. I won't be able to actually try any more fixes for a few days - this laptop in now unreliable so I am taking my old backup laptop on my current business trip. Thanks for any help and I'll get working on suggestions when I return to town Monday November 12th...Jack

I did some research, and that might not be the best way to go with 8, the advice was more appropriate with Windows 7. Go to device manger as previously suggested; my link will show how

Look for small yellow markers, which show a problem with a driver. If you see any, update that driver.
