Clean install of Win8, and now BSODs everywhere.

I started my day with a stable Vista machine, and ended my day with a highly unstable Windows 8 machine. I can't even keep it running long enough to install Maya. According to my Minidumps, I have had 6 BSODs in the last 3 hours. That's... stunningly bad. It's not the same BSOD every time. I've had paging BSODs and IRQ BSODs and USB BSODs. Oh, it's an exciting menagerie of crashes over here. I am about to pass out from exhaustion, though. Maybe someone will figure this out while I try to take a nap. I have attached my diagnostic tool output, with all of its evil crashiness.

Welcome
Each one of your reports has a different cause, sometimes and indication of hardware problems. Lets start with memory.
Run for 8 passes.
Run memtest for 8 passes
Then test each individual stick in a good slot for 6 passes.
If you have dual channel, the results may be incorrect, if shows pass.

You know, now that you mention it, it does occur to me that I was running 32-bit Vista on this machine previously, so I wasn't actually USING all of my memory. If there was some bad memory up in the high address range I couldn't access, it would have never been revealed until now. Hmmm! I think I'm going to follow your advice. I'll report back when I have some news!

So far, all of my memory tests are coming up clean. I'm kind of disappointed, since that would have been a simple explanation for everything. A memory problem would have been good -- cheap, quick, and easy to fix.

I did look at the compatibility details, prior to upgrading. I didn't notice any issues that were going to persist across a clean install -- it looked like it was all software-related. After the clean install, all of the drivers that are running on this machine right now are whatever Windows 8 shipped with. I haven't installed any other drivers. I'm really at something of a loss, at this point.

This is not going well at all. Since I'm paid by the hour, I'm getting perilously close to my "If I spend any more hours on this, it will be cheaper just to buy a new computer" barrier.

What happend to your nap?
Heheheh, I can't sleep when I have a mystery to solve! But, ugh, really, the sun is up now. I just wasted the whole night wrestling with this machine. :sleepy:

Hi, do you use Avast antivirus? Currently Avast together with Realtek lan gives BSOD's! Uninstall Avast and you'll be fine. I had that problem and solved it by removing Avast.

No Avast. No 3rd party anti-virus or firewall of any sort. Like I said, this was a clean install of Win8, so I don't have any cruft hanging about. The first thing I tried to install on my new system was Autodesk Maya 2013, but I couldn't even make it through the install process without a BSOD.

I agree with the above. I have helped 3 people with the Avast problem. You may want to give it a try, but your reports do not indicate that as the problem

Dang. I almost thought I had it.

The system seemed much more stable after removing the Buffalo WLI-UC-GN wireless networking USB fob I was temporarily using for network on this machine, but, after a while, I had another one of the daggone page fault BSODs. (Good grief, what ever happened to protected memory? :p ) It may be that I removed one of my sources of BSODs, but there's still something wrong.

The computer has been stable, the rest of the day. Either A.) I needed to reboot after yanking the wireless USB device mentioned above (a suggestion for those who follow in my footsteps!), or B.) it was the new Razer mouse drivers I installed, but either way, or C.) some combination of the above, but I seem to now be stabilized. Thanks, folks, for trying to help me, even if I had to kind of figure it out, myself.

Apparently, I spoke too soon. I'm still having major crashing and BSOD problems -- especially when exporting video from Premiere Pro CS5.5. I have uninstalled all but my bare essential hardware, at this point. I am really at the end of my rope, here.

I have attached the latest diagnostics.

The last few point toward authenticamd, which is your processer, most likely an AMD product.

Well, yeah, it's an AMD Athlon 64, Dual Core 4800+.

If it's the processor that's giving me fits, I should probably just drop my old Vista drive back in there, and give up. I'm not sure anyone even sells new Socket 939 chips anymore, and even if I found something, it would be just as likely to cause me problems as the chip that is in there. :(
