Windows 8 shuts down on start up

    Hey all

I installed a clean version of windows 8 on my PC over the weekend and since then when I start it up it gets to the load screen and shuts down. When I start it up again it works fine. I have a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H motherboard, I went to their site and downloaded the latest drivers for ethernet and chipset.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Welcome
It appears that your problem maybe hardware related. With your particular set of facts it is our procedure to insure that it is not a driver by taking the driver verifier test, first
Verifying Drivers: Enable or disable the Driver verifier in Windows 8

    richc46,

Thanks for the help. I enabled verifier per the instructions and restarted, everything came up normal. Reading elsewhere if a driver was the issue a message would have come up correct? After the restart I shut it down, waited and turned it on again and it shut it self down again.

Verifier must be used to test at least 36 hours.

This might appear simplistic but I have found that Windows 8 uses more cpu resources and hence laptops run hotter. If you have a laptop that's over 3 years old your problem maybe overheating. Under the previous operating system this may not have been an issue. Any laptop over 3 years old will have a substantial amount of dust caught on the heat sink restricting air flow.

The most common problem with an older laptop that's been 'upgraded' is that it simply stops completely and instantly whilst your working.

I would recommend gaining access to the fan, vacuum out the dust and seeing if that cures it before anything else. I have found this to fix many laptops with a new installation of Windows 8. If your problem persists, no matter as you have at least carried out a bit of important maintenance.

The solution to windows 8 shutting down at booting is very simple: Go to PC settings>Choose what the power buttons do"..power button options> enable advanced options not available>scroll down to the bottom of the window , there you see check marks , and uncheck the first box for "Turn on fast boot up ", save settings, and hard boot now.

    more detailed info here:
Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 8
This problem appears only on PCs/laptops which are not compatible to run windows 8.

Google for 'Hybrid shut down" to learn nmore

If turning off Fast boot up doesn't stop the BSod as suggested by rdgreat.

All your dumpfiles mention The disk subsystem failed to properly read or write part of the hibernation
    file.

    You are still using Truecript.

The development of TrueCrypt was ended in 5/2014 after Microsoft terminated support of Windows XP. You should migrate any data encrypted by TrueCrypt to encrypted disks or virtual disk images supported on your platform.
In your dumpfiles there are also signs of problems with your Symentec/Norton antivirus/security program.
