Solved BSOD on shut down

I am left in the unusual situation where I cannot switch off my computer because each time I click "shut down" I get a BSOD which explains that windows must now restart. I only just updated to windows 8 today. The error on the BSOD says SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED. This happens every time I attempt to shut down. The only option remaining is for me to hold down the power button on the tower for a few seconds and then it switches off but it is not ideal.

I hope I have attached the relevant information correctly.

Thanks in anticipation.

Klipp.

Thanks Rich. I used Autoruns to disable it and now my computer shuts down gracefully.:)

Same problem. How to delete? What/where is "Autoruns"? I am on the phone with ms tech support and he won't believe me that this is the problem!

Autoruns

After the list finishes populating you will discover two instances of apple charger. Remove the check by both of them then restart (it will bsod one last time) then shut down again to confirm it is fixed.

Hi All,
I did seem to get the "AppleCharge" problem fixed and now the computer shuts down properly (or least doesn't freeze). I read in another post that you should start Windows in Safe mode then change the name of Applecharger.sys to Applecharge.sys.old and then reboot. Unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to start Windows 8 in SafeMode. Nonetheless I changed the file name as indicated, shut down (computer froze) rebooted. After the reboot, the computer now seems to shut down fine.
Thanks,
Jeff
