Seemingly Random BSODs

Hey everyone,

Not sure what's going on, but I've had a few BSODs. As far as I can tell, I haven't noticed any one thing I'm doing at the time of the crashes. I ran Memtest 86+ for 17 passes with no errors, and chkdsk came back fine. Core Temps says that, at my highest, I'm running about 40 C, which shouldn't be a problem. I've attached my dmp files, however there are a few in there from before when all my MoBo drivers had been installed/updated (I'd go with anything after 10/19 as being a crash with all the updated drivers, etc). Unfortunately, I cannot recall how to automatically load in the system specs (and I can't seem to find the guide). Please let me know if there is anything else you need. Thanks!

And of course, as soon as I say it seems the BSODs went down, I had a spit of them one after the other. They all seemed to happen after the sound started to, well, for lack of better term, honking feedback at me. There was also an instance after a crasher where everything in windows explorer was pixelated (login screen entirely, and task bar/desktop icons on the desktop mode. Not sure if this helps any more or not either, but after each crash, the clock seemed to reset to 3:10 am on 10/21. I've uploaded an updated diagnostics file.

Thanks again!

Well if you already tried Memtest86 I would recommend enabling Driver Verifier to get more detailed info from future BSODs.

A couple of other things that might help:
1, Uninstall ASUS bloatware.

2, Update or uninstall the WD SCSI Pass Thru driver

3, And finally...upgrade to W8 RTM.

I removed the ASUS bloatware, and removed the WD driver. Still had a few crashes this morning (I've attached another diagnostics collection).

I also tried to run driver verifier, however, when I got to the select drivers, there aren't any, and I am unable to find any through the load drivers option.

Another thing: When I restart my computer, windows does "please wait" then brings me to a blue screen with the option for "repair" "shut down" and "choose OS" When I hit repair, it does the same thing. When I hit "choose OS" it brings me to 2 Windows 8 options that are both on "Volume 2" (I'm assuming this is my HDD).

For Windows 8 RTM, is there a way to upgrade to it other than changing the file in the Release Preview?

That's weird, try selecting all drivers instead, hopefully that won't make the machine too slow to be usable.

Start msconfig and select the boot tab, if there are two identical entries there, delete on of them.

Well, If you buy Windows 8 I would recommend that you do a clean install.

Thanks Tobias. I'll try that with the driver verifier, and the msconfig worked.

I'm planning on buying the windows 8 upgrade (at the discounted price) however this is not available until 10/26 when Windows 8 is released. Would I be able to do a clean install with the upgrade?

Checking back in, with a few more dumps. Anyone able to see anything which might indicate what driver is causing the issue?

The WD SCSI driver is still installed and your NIC driver could need a update, I don't think I'll get anything other useful from the dumps until you enable driver verifier.

Sorry for the wait on getting back.

I've since updated to full Windows Pro, updated graphics card, and psu. crashes seemed to go away for a while, though now they have returned.

I've set up driver verifier to see if that catches anything, though currently no such luck.

Had a few more crashes, though I'm not sure what exactly caused them. Running the driver verifier seemed to uninstall catalyst control center, amd driver, etc. When I viewed the device manager, it showed the standard WDDM driver. Running the AMD installer, it is not giving me the option to install the actual display driver now. Does this mean it could have been the culprit?

Any thoughts?

Be sure to go into settings and turn off automatic restart on error. That way, you'll get to SEE the specific driver that is causing the BSOD. Next, google that driver name and see what program it belongs to.

I had a problem with a third-party encryption program. I just uninstalled it and now everything is workign perfectly.

I would assume that this is while driver verifier is running? All the blue screens I've seen have just shown the error type.

Is anyone at least looking at these dumps? Or should I just quit posting them...

You bsod's are generic.

Run memtest from hcidesign.com. Load memtest86+. Use driver verifier. Disable non-essential drivers. Use the basic display driver. Uninstall motherboard utilities. Uninstall virtual cd drivers. Uninstall third party virus scanners. Underclock your cpu/gpu.
