Can you explain how you replaced amdsbs.sys?

I've got the same problem with an AMD MB RAID device. I managed to install Win8 with the device disabled in BIOS and am now trying to make it so Win 8 can boot with RAID enabled.

I tried to find all instances of amdsbs.sys and replace them with the one in this thread but I still got the BSOD during boot-up.

    Any ideas?

I'm in the process of replacing that file in the .wim files, so you can use them at install time (and it will have the correct driver installed after you're done), but I got sidetracked. I'll try to get them done this afternoon/evening and see if I can get it posted somewhere, you'd just need to replace the .wim files and re-install, and then you should be good to go.

**EDIT** Work machine running Win7 x64's dism.exe won't open the win8 .wim files, so I had to install win8 in a VM and I'm in the process of copying over the .wim files now. Hopefully have something shortly, just not sure where I'm going to stick the 3g install.wim, lol.

I have the files edited (changed the old amdsbs.sys in 3 places on 4 total images, 2 in boot.wim, and 2 in install.wim). I'm going to have to find somewhere to host the 3g install.wim file, and you'll basically need to create a bootable usb key, and replace the boot.wim & install.wim files in the sources folder (unless you build a full win8 Iso).

**UPDATE** Uploading to filedropper now, will update again when complete with a link.

    Cool thanks.

Is it impossible to replace the file once Win8 has been installed? Also how hard is it to replace the files in the .wim? Maybe instead of downloading the 3gig files it would be easier to modify my wim files myself?

Any links you can shoot me? I can probably figure it out.

I used these instructions to replace the files in the wim files:

    Performed the following:
    Code:

    Dism /Mount-Wim /WimFile:D:\install.wim /Name:"Windows 8 Consumer Preview" /MountDir:D:\mount (mount install.wim to local directory)
Use the Windows Search Feature and Search for "amdsbs"
Replace all amdsbs.sys files with the version from the Development Preview (you will need to change permissions/take ownership of files:
    MountDir\Windows\System32\Drivers
    MountDir\Windows\Winsxs
    MountDir\Windows\System32\Driverstore\FileRepository
    Dism /Unmount-Wim /MountDir:D:\Mount /Commit

Did this for both Install.wim and Boot.wim, no bluescreen on AMD RAID/AHCI now.

It took 3 file replacements, 2 seperate named sections in each of the 2 files. You can do the same thing on your live system, but you may have issues with the system letting you replace them (they are in the same 3 locations that are shown in the instructions above on your C: drive, you'll need to take ownership and give yourself full access permissions to replace them). On my live system the Winsxs file proved to be more difficult than the other 2 files, but I eventually got it working.

For anyone interested, I'm about 30% complete uploading the 2 patched files..

Ok, the filedropper service just plain sucks, lol. I uploaded it to them twice, taking around 2 hrs each time, and no link provided. I'm currently sending it to my 4shared account (should have just done that to begin with), and will post a link once it's done (approximately ANOTHER 2 hours). To fit within 4shared's file size limitations, I was forced to split the files into 3 1gb chunks using Winrar, so you'll need that to extract it.

The shared folder link will be:

** 4-shared link removed at Microsoft's demand due to 'copyright' violations. Fix your damn OS microsoft and people won't have to resort to using a patched ISO file...

    I'll update when it's finished, but there are 3 files, win8.part1.rar (1048576kb), win8.part2.rar (1048576kb), and win8.part3.rar (929976kb).

AND: This is posted as-is, I'm not to be held responsible if it breaks your computer, runs off with your wife, or eats all your Cheetoes...

I've been having the same exact problems involving said error with amdsbs.sys. I haven't been able to install Win 8 Pro on my desktop rig, since I can't even make it to the initial blue setup screen. Here's my setup:

    ASUS M5A97 revision 1 motherboard + AMD FX-8120 CPU
    16GB Avexir DDR3-1600 RAM
    64GB Samsung 830 SSD + 500GB x3 drives in RAID 5 + 2TB drive + DVD Burner (all six SATA pots filled)
XFX Radeon 6570 1GB Video card
    Creative Soundblaster X-Fi sound card

I have performed the amdsbs.sys from the DP file swap within boot.wim and install.wim and copied everything to a bootable flash drive, but I have not had the time to test this installation ...and to be frank I'm not sure I'd even trust this installation over being able to grab an already-doctored boot.wim and install.wim and just copying them over the same files on my flash drive. Bottom line, I could use the aforementioned files too with amdsbs.sys replaced.

I followed the instructions above, and the files are now on the 4shared link above. I'll probably try to munge up an ISO file later, at this point I'm tired of uploading, LOL. I haven't tested this any further than making sure the install starts (my first attempt at just replacing the .wim files in the originally downloaded iso wouldn't get past the logo, said the install.wim file didn't exist in the iso).

I'm currently downloading the RAR set, and I'm considering just disconnecting the SSD and plugging in a different platter-spinning hard drive just so I don't end up messing up my current installation for test purposes. If this works, you will be my savior heffe!

Assuming this fix works, I'm wondering about what it would take to make a delta so that anybody with this problem can just apply the delta to a standard Windows 8 Pro/Enterprise ISO and swap out amdsbs.sys...would make things much easier than having to mount both WIMs and taking ownership of all the files and overwriting them. I'll look into it after I'm able to reformat and post it. Another option is just to make the entire ISO and hosting it on torrent seedbox for whoever wants to grab it.
