OK Changed my mind - IE10 is not good

I thought one redeeming attribute of Windows 8 was the new IE10 full screen version. Yikes! Just discovered that it doesn't accept plug-ins. Neither Flash nor Java will run within IE10.

Are you kidding! That all but eliminates using it. Now I know why there are 2 versions.

Technically, Flash is already built into Windows 8. The immersive IE whitelists about 100 different sites to allow Flash content as a means to safe guard system security. Java doesn't work on it.

    Hi there
IE 10 in Windows 2012 server also has a problem -- even the NON Metro version won't allow you to install a flash player -- it says already installed -- so whenever you try and play video in IE 10 (On W2012 server -- works fine in W8 enterprise RTM x-64) you just get a black screen where the video should be - sound works fine.

Same problem even if you set the IE security level to minimum (or even none -- bad idea on a server but just testing).

There doesn't seem any fix yet for this that works. I don't want to try Firefox, or Chrome on a SERVER although in theory there's no reason why I shouldn't try. I just would like MS to fix IE 10 though.

    Cheers

Is that really a problem, or is just an inconvenience caused by MS trying to harden the server OS a little bit more?

    Hi there
can't say -- but IMO IE 10 should work the same way whatever platform it's installed on whether it's a server or a "Desktop" OS.

I feel quite differently, and believe that a server OS should have certain functions removed or limited. Frankly, one of the reasons why I liked running Windows Server 2008 on my laptop (besides Hyper-V) was that instead of removing or disabling services and features I did not want, I simply enabled those I did want. It's one area where I find Linux/Unix to be far superior to other operating systems.

    Windows Server 2012

I agree with Jimbo45. I cannot make Flash Player work at all. Someone here questions the reason for having Flash on a server. Well, I'm trying to get Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5 running on a Windows Server 2012 box. The Flash Media Server requires flash because the admin utility, I gather, is programmed in Flash. So in my case it is necessary. After spending more than 8 hours on the issues I'm pulling the plug on 2012 and going back to 2008R2. I'm not very happy with IE10. I'm using a full production release under SPLA. This is the real deal and not working. :-<
