Better way of organsing IE favourites by using the start screen

Hi there

I've found an easier way of getting to my favourite web sites is to use the following technique -rather than use the Favourites option or menu in IE. (IMO). Works for me but YMMV of course.

First Kill the Invasive IE (the full screen version) from the start screen - unpin this tile and replace it with the "bog standard" version. From the desktop right mouse click on the icon ===>properties===>open file location. It should point to iexplore.exe or whatever. Right mouse click and pin to start screen. Now you've got IE (standard version) on the start screen. Move to left group of tiles so it's easily accessible.

Now create a folder anywhere on your computer (advantage of this is if you re-install the OS you don't lose all your web site links) say called My links.
open notepad and save the URLS of the links you want to save as favourites
save file name.
right mouse click on the My Links folder
choose pin to start screen

Now you've got a folder on the start screen -- move to leftwards column by the desktop icon.

When you click this the links will open -- just pick the link and you'll get your website.

You can store as many files in the My links folder as you like (or even create sub folders with other files in them too).

works a treat - and if you store this on a separate partition to the OS you don't lose them when you re-install the OS.

I find this easier since I don't have to bother with going to the favourites and switch out of the web site I'm already browsing. I just get a new window. (Ensure the Invasive IE is "booted into touch" off the start screen and you've got the standard IE version in its place).

Cheers

I have kept to the traditional way. I also use the "bog standard" IE as a desktop program. I have all my favourites in the tope menu ("favorites"). I have IE as my default browser, and I have to open it anyway, to use the favorites.

Hi there
I just found it easier to simply open my file, click on a link and a 2nd window opens so I have the original Window and the new link without going through favourites and getting a second tab.

But I did say in the post YMMV !.

Also depending on the number you have being able to have these in a separate data area means I don't lose them when re-installing the OS or starting up any number of VM's.

Well, like yourself, I am sure, I keep regular backups going. But, once in a while (Not a long while!) I save the essentials under the username - this includes the favourites folder.

I use Google Chrome and the sync feature and all of my bookmarks are stored in the cloud and replicated to every machine I use Google Chrome on. I've not had to backup or worry about my bookmarks for at least a year now.

Everyone to their own, I guess. Call me neurotic, but there is no way I will, at any time in the future, be storing my data on the web.
