Firefox slows to a crawl a couple of minutes after startup

This is a problem that has been going on for a while. It is consistent.

Every time I start up the computer it works fine for a minute or two or three and then slows down to a crawl and won't load a page for as much as 1-3 minutes. Then after a while, maybe 5-10 minutes, the performance will improve.

At various times during the day, it will do the same thing.

I'm using a Dell laptop computer with Windows 8.

Does anyone have any ideas about why this would be so? Or ideas about how to improve performance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Are you using wireless if so it could be another router using the same channel. If it's just Firefox you can refresh it and see if that solves it that's not a resinstall but refresh

Thank you for your reply.

I have a personal wifi setup. I don't understand what difference that would make, however, since it is fine when it starts up and then slows to a crawl and will slow to a crawl at various times of the day for no apparent reason.

You suggest that I refresh Firefox but I can't refresh it if it is not moving at all. It just sits there frozen or with the circle going round and round.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

If wireless is disturbed by a close station it may vary a lot depending if it's turned on at certain times etc. When I say refresh Firefox I mean the refresh option NOT trying to reload the page choose menu , help, troubleshooting reset

You said "choose menu , help, troubleshooting reset".

But I don't know where that is. I do not see it anywhere. Can you provide a bit more detail.

I still don't understand why Firefox slows to a halt a minute or two after I start up the computer Every. Single. Time. would have anything to do with being disturbed by a close station. Could you go into a bit more detail about how and why that would happen? I want to understand.
