Assuming this has already been tested, but would porting:
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Edge
&
Shell:::{AD1405D2-30CF-4877-8468-1EE1C52C759F}\Apps\Edge

from Win 10 Pro x64 to Win 8.1 Pro x64 allow the browser app to work? I cannot find anything that proves or disproves this, and cannot test it at the moment.

Any thoughts/test results?

No -- Edge is strictly for Win10 and is (IMHO) basically a half-baked Metro-ized version of IE 11. Folks on the Win10 forums are constantly complaining about Edge and I configured my Win 10 system to use IE 11 by default, instead of Edge.
