Cannot update or uninstall embedded Adobe 18.0 in IE 11

    Dear All,

I have recently acquired an HP desktop pc with Win 8.1 system. After installing all my available software & carrying out all critical & recommended updates I set the system browser as the latest version of Firefox using the latest edition of Adobe 18 which proved a successful install.

However, whilst checking the system for any necessary patches required with Secunia PSI it highlighted I had an unsafe older version of Adobe 18 embedded within Internet Explorer. Try as I might I cannot update or uninstall this version of Adobe 18 embedded within IE.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem to this & if so is there a viable solution available?

    Cheers

    Ich

Do you have the exact wording of the notification from Secunia ?

Win 8 an 8.1 have Windows Reader embedded. If someone has installed Adobe Reader it should appear in the Uninstall Programs.

    Hi Torre,

It's not Adobe Reader it's Flash player (32 bit), it was pre-installed on the system for IE-11 & lives at Windows/SystemWOW64/Macromedia, incidentally without an uninstall app.

My bad. So used to seeing Adobe referred to as Reader and Flash as Flash.

As you may know, Flash is updated through MSN updates. Try to check and see if you have the latest update. There is not a way to remove Flash from IE 8. You may look for ways to disable it.

Flash was updated this morning to 18.0.0.209 and MS has not updated IE 11. It will come through Windows Update hopefully later today.

    Thanks People,

I have chosen to uninstall flash for Firefox & disable in IE-11, I don't think I'm missing out to much.

    Rgds.

I did an in-place upgrade to Win 8 CP from Win 7 SP1; and all has by and large been fine. Before, Adobe Reader X 10.1.2 worked fine, but it wouldn't update to the latest verson claiming the package was corrupt. I then, perhaps foolishly, uninstalled Adobe Reader X with a view to just installing...
