Cannot find Windows 8 Metro Browser?

    Hey everyone.

Back when I installed Windows 8, I must have accidentally either uninstalled IE10 in Metro or removed the tile or something. I can't seem to find it on my PC now, and I want to play about with it.

If I did uninstall it, how do I re install it? I can't seem to find it on the app store or on the internet.

    Thank you.

Assuming you just removed the tile from the Start Screen, open the All Apps version of Start. It should be still listed in the first couple of columns on the left (the blue tile). Right click on the tile and click Pin to Start Screen.

If it truly is gone, the only way I've found to restore it is to type "sfc /scannow" at an elevated command prompt. This will take a while, so be patient.

    Hope this helps...

[EDIT] Hey Shawn you answered this as I was typing.

I don't think the requirement for I.E. desktop to be default is a precondition necessary for I.E. Metro to work. When I put UAC to default level and rebooted, that automatically changes the secpol.msc setting (UAC - Run all administrators in Admin approval mode) back to the default Enabled too - so I was all set to use Metro apps then.

I.E. Metro worked well and FF desktop is my system default browser.

    Hello GMan,

Sorry, but that's not the case. When I set FF as my default web browser, it changes the IE10 Metro app to a IE10 desktop shortcut instead.

2 differences that may account for that:

    1) I didn't set FF as default after the reboot. It was and has always been my default since I installed it right after installing Windows.

    2) I'm x86, maybe x64 behaves differently.

Edit: I think I just figured it out. My FF settings have FF as the default browser. But in the Windows Default Programs settings screen, it showed as only 3 of 8 as default. This is how Metro IE worked for me.

I just made FF default for all 8 settings and now Metro I.E. tile opens desktop, as you said.

So in other words, if you just set FF to be default within FF and do nothing else, Metro IE will work well.

2nd edit: After further testing, it seems the only setting that makes the difference is for HTTP protocol.

Changing just that single setting is what affects if IE desktop or IE Metro opens. Apparently, setting FF as default within FF does not affect this setting.

Yep, it's the same with me, but it needs to have Internet Explorer for both the HTTP and HTTPS protocols. However, afterwards IE10 (desktop/metro) acts as default instead of FF for me.
