Hotmail & 2-Step Verification

Someone please help me. I cannot reset my Hotmail password because of 2-Step Verification. Everything I have read online about 2-Step Verification tells me to login to my Hotmail account to turn it off. How can I do that if I don't know my password. When I do try to reset my Hotmail password, it takes me to a page telling me 2-Step is on. It says something about a code, but there is a gray drop down box with only 1 choice, which is "I don't have one of these". Someone please help.

Forget about Hotmail. I got locked out like you did about 6 months ago and can't get back in. There's nothing you can do.

Setup a Gmail account, and ask for the Code to be sent there, you can then use the code to unlock Hotmail

I did that and it didn't work.

I would have to be able to login to my Hotmail account in order to do that. This is very frustrating.

I'd suggest going on the Microsoft Support site and initiate a Chat session to have someone help you

Obviously, if it could be turned off before a verification, there would no point in using it. 2-step verification is a double edge sword, it increases security of the account, but if you are unable to provide a verification... .
