Some sites, apparently this one is about to have the same problem, cannot place cookies, but sometimes can, on my Asus laptop hard drive.

Three sites so far... I have allow cookies in both FF35. and IE 11; however, when I login , I get logged right back out when I click on anything like a forum link to a particular thread type. Like forums or web mail ( this is on another site).

On these forums, I went to tutorials and was logged out. I was able to log back in and post this.

I remember this Windows 8.1 laptop installed a security update on Feb 12. I remember a Windows update installing on Friday 13. But the second one isn't in the list.

I have AVG paid firewall and anti-virus I keep up to date, as well as Malwarebytes.

Cache in FF35 clears when I close the browser. I have cleared the cache in IE 11. Both multiple times.

I did see some Certificates in FF I have no idea how they got there. Spain and China from the look of them. Some mention they are China.

I deleted them. No difference.

Any suggestions on how to fix this ?

Thanks !

edit: Now 8 sites wont let me in. It seems to be increasing as I look over various forums I log into regularly. I'm going to scan my computer for trojans.

edit 2: I checked my firewall logs... that is blocking cookies from being placed on my hard drive. No trojans found.

I have AVG Internet Security 2014. I was unable to find anything in the software to allow cookies from specified sites.

No clue what to do next.

Perhaps get https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

You can save needed cookies with it.

My firewall is blocking cookies for some reason. It wasn't doing that on Friday, started doing it on Saturday.

I used CCleaner to remove temporary internet files, bad links in my registry, etc. on Saturday. No difference. AVG Internet Security 2014 did an update this morning. I was hoping that was a fix for the problem, but it wasn't.

edit:
I put the sites that are being blocked in a whitelist in the firewall, no difference.

AVG faqs fix was to upgrade to a newer version. Made no difference.

I went off line. Uninstalled AVG. Setup Windows Firewall. Had to use Task manager to shut off AVG processes that till ran even after restart.

Made sure the Win Firewall allowed incoming connections.

No change. Still wont let me access and log into web sites I was using Friday. I'm about to go buy a new laptop, take the hard drive out of this one so I can copy files, and then take a sledgehammer to this one.

They were both on accept; however, 'override automatic cookie handling' was not on. I have also checked 'Always allow session cookies'.

Friday night 'Windows Modules Installer' was placed on my laptop by Windows Update. After that, I started having problems.

Maybe if I can delete Windows Modules Installer, things will start working again.

Cannot completely go back to the restore point before WMI was installed. Windows keeps claiming anti-virus is blocking a file. Except I disabled that while offline.

I made the changes above you suggested, and used the cookie test on another web site. Still fails for both FF35 and IE 11.

Windows Modules Installer should be set on Manual.
It is a service otherwise known as Trusted Installer.

In Run type in services.msc & scroll down the Services page to locate it.

Earlier today I used a laptop from a relative who has never been to the web site I go to.

Cookies are blocked.

So he and I now think it is the Cisco router he has. Not my firewall nor browser at all.

I had a spare wireless router, swapped it out, and now I'm back in on the 8 plus sites I couldn't get cookies from.

unfortunately, with no changes made by us... it stopped working overnight. I've reset my wireless modem. No change.
Still broke.

My router says limited access. I can only get on the Internet using the router that doesn't allow cookies for some sites.

Okay, rebooted the router after logging into it. Now it works, there was a setting in the router to block cookies. So we unchecked that, and saved. Now I can get into sites blocked.
