If I'm very lucky that works, but only in rare cases. In most, it doesn't.

There is also the drop down list in the address bar (that tiny down arrow by the search icon) that has all your previous pages.Attachment 57334

That works, but there are no previous links listed. Only random ones plus Google and Bing. Also, if I'm looking at one pdf file and enter the link for the second one and then opening that one (the second one) I can go back to the first one using the back arrow. But not from the first one to Google.

I'm in Metro IE 32-bit primarily since I'm using a tablet. I do have adobe reader xi with display to browser disabled for security reasons, and I can get back to Google results easily fine on the first PDF result. I haven't tested in desktop IE though but I would guess it'll give the same effect.

Ok I understand that for switching back, IE for some reason is not working as it should(some times it's the site builders fault). Instead of opening PDFs in the browser, can you set it up, to open in the reader? That's how Sumatra functions(I just click on IE and bring it to the foreground again).
Or before you open a PDF you could right click the tab and choose "Duplicate tab", that way it saves your search tab, and just close the duplicate after your done reading,
Yeah yeah I know we shouldn't even need work arounds.

I tried both and it doesn't work. Regardless of what option I choose in : Open links from other programs in. I tried disabling Display PDF in browser. It didn't help.

I'm sorry, I only know the stuff for IE and not Adobe. I only used it for a couple of weeks on my old laptop when I first bought it, and it still only had 4GB RAM and a 5400rpm HDD, and Adobe was too heavy for it, so I had to find something lighter(I only needed it to read manuals on CDs and the internet). Good luck maybe someone else with more experience can help or it's a bug.
Is there a forum for Adobe Reader?

But it's not Adobe, because I've tried disabling it and using NitroPDF, and SumatraPDF, but there has been no improvement.

When I click a PDF link in IE, it opens my own separately-installed Adobe in a new window and loads the file there, so then I can read it or use "Save As" in that window. I don't know offhand how to select that option in IE, but there must be a way.
