Metro IE10 keeps quitting whenever I enter a URL in the address bar

    Hi!

I stumbled upon this forum when I was asked by a Microsoft employee to try out the Windows 8 CP. Great forum!

Recently I ran into some problem with Metro IE10. Whenever I enter a URL it just keeps quitting. I, honest to God, have no idea how to describe it differently so here is a video of it:

Do you guys have any idea of what's causing this and how to prevent it? This is driving me nuts!

    Best regards!

It seems that the video player at Zippyshare doesn't want to play my clip. Please use the download link to watch it.

I get the same thing with all the Apps on the left side of screen closing down the second I try to open them.

In my case this problem occurs if I dare to adjust UAC down then back up again. After that the Apps on the left are completely hosed. From what I have read the only way to fix the problem is to create a new User account and delete the old one which isn't a solution at all in my book.

I also found that adjusting the security levels in IE10 has the same effect. Once it's broke there is no fixing it, I had to use a recent system image to fix the problem. After that I don't touch UAC or the security settings in IE10 which keeps the problem from coming back.

There are similar complaints all over the internet so it's looking like a major bug with WCP.

Damn. I actually turned UAC off and then back on again. I'm not sure why, but I did. I'm gonna try turning it off and see what happens.

Thank you very much for your reply!

    ----[ EDIT ]----------------------------

The problem remained. I'm gonna keep you updated if I figure out a solution to this.

    Hi prplpxr,
Try sfc /scannow in cmd with admin rights, try running three times at least.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - Run in Windows 8
This will rectify any corrupted system files.

Hi! This seems to be the solution to everything, but not my problem. I ran it once yesterday and twice today with the same result.

sfc, says no problems were found. It's something to do with User permissions that gets hosed the second you make any type of security adjustment.

I Goggled this problem to the ends of the earth and the only way to fix it was to either create a new User account or use a previous system image, after that don't touch UAC or the security settings in IE or the problem will return and I mean pronto.

Calling this problem a Major bug really doesn't do it justice, This reflects badly on Msoft, I'd have to call it the screw up of the century.

My guess is 3rd party software as the cause.

Hi, As I'm used to having the address bar @ the top of the page, (like it is in the desktop version)..it looks like MS would have offered an option to do so in the 'metro' version. I hope that some user can come up with a 'hack' to get that done. David
IE Metro tile is missing from my metro start screen. It's not in the 'all apps' list either. when I go to program default, it is set as the default browser. I went through all the checks in the tutorial on here, but at best, I can only get the desktop IE tile to pin to start. I would rather have...

Hi, Sorry if this has already been asked - I'm trying to catch up with developments and it seems easier asking rather than blundering my way between Metro and Normal mode. For regular browsing I'm using IE10 from the normal Windows desktop. I find that if a program opens IE10, it opens the...
