Chrome Canary using 30% of Cpu shortly after launch

Hey, I'm not new, just never created a user here, new to Win 8.1, but I've been around seven forums for years. Anyway, I can't figure this out. At random, for no apparent reason, usually shortly after launching Chrome (I run the new, 64bit Canary version) it begins to use around 27-30% of my Cpu, I have no idea what it's doing, but it's even causing the Cpu to boost, so it's not only hogging resources, but making the system run hot and waste power. I've run it with all extensions disabled, same result, doesn't seem to matter what web page I open, or how many tabs I have open. I'm 100% certain there's no virus or malware, on this rig I visit probably less than 15 total websites, and they're all mainstream and safe. I've scanned it with 2 great programs, Malwarebytes and Spybot S&E. This is my secondary rig, it's for work, but I also do some gaming on it. I filled out my profile with the specs of this rig rather than my main gaming rig, my main rig is better, but same OS, same browsers, no issues.

Anyway, here's a screenshot. I struggle to diagnose it because it's not any of the tasks, but the main browser instance. Have a look, and this with only gmail, and a tiny web forum I visit open, that's it.

I really hope someone can help me, I've posted this in various places to no effect, I absolutely love Canary, but I can't use it right now because of this, and I just don't like the layout of Firefox. I have not been able to repeat this on the gaming rig and the wife's rig as well, which runs Win7, no issues. Thank you so, so much in advance. I'm a fairly advanced user, but this has me stuck.
