Internet Explorer Crashes

My husband's computer has IE 11 which has been running fine. Today it decided it was a good time to crash. We keep getting the box that says internet explorer has stopped working blah, blah, blah. I have tried everything I can think of even turning IE off and back on again. According to the Event viewer it says Faulting application name IEXPLORE.EXE, version 11.09600.17416, time stamp:0X5452EED9, faulting module name: KERNALBASE.dll version6.39600.17278, time stamp:0x53eeb460, Execution code: 0xe06d7363. He has a Toshiba satellite, running win 8.1

I am at my wit's end. I've checked toolbars, reset in Internet Options, just about anything I can think of. If anyone can help, I'd be so grateful! Thanks.

Click the gear icon>internet options>advanced tab>RESET. If you have any add-ons this will turn them off too.
From my experience some add-ons are not so agreeable with IE11, such as WOT(I had to stop using it too in IE, but have it in Chrome). And some of the ad-blockers haven't been updated in years either. For some DNS blockers it's the same. And don't use TOO many tracking protection lists.

Thank you, I had already done the Reset. I think he downloaded some type of virus. I was able to download CCleaner & ran that & Kyspersky. Also did the chkdsk C: /f someone had suggested in another thread. I finally got it to run ok. I'm hoping it's ok now, but this morning he had some popup about a virus, you know the kind, where it's actually a virus they're trying to sell you a removal for. It wouldn't go away. I did go into his programs & uninstall some odd named programs & it seems to be ok again. I'm hoping we've got it taken care of. I'll leave this open a couple days in case it didn't do the trick.

That's the only reason I have adblocker(turned off on known/trusted sites to pay for the server bills). It can help protect from the occasional drive by(Trojan ad won't even be loaded) or in case my finger "twitches" in the wrong place at lesser known/trusted sites. Plus I keep all of IE's Tin Foil Hat security measures on. If go to a site that has streaming video like how-to-geek or gizmodo I use Chrome then.

Do you mean the pop up blocker in Internet OPtions & what do you mean by IE's Tin Foil Hat security measures. I didn't really like Chrome, but my husband reads a lot on CNN & those type of sites. He doesn't stream video, but I know some of those sites have stuff that pops up. He also clicks on stuff that he doesn't realize is BAD. Would he be better off using Chrome.

By tin foil hat in IE11 in windows 8.1 I mean they have tighten the default security settings so tight that when there is video that isn't updated to the very latest Adobe player it doesn't even show a place holder some times. Or when I down load at trusted sites like Filehippo, majorgeeks, or even LibreOffice the installer doesn't run in temp like it did on windows 7, you have save to Downloads or Desktop first then run the installer. Don't get me wrong I find this a very good idea. It's a good reminder for security, I've even started running a malwarebytes scan for good measure(even the most secure site/server can get hijacked. On the other hand what I don't like with chrome is these flash ads in the middle of paragraphs, you know the green words underlined once or twice just waiting like land mines for a mouse-over.:busted:

I hear what you're saying. Thank you for all the information. So far, so good on my husband's computer. I'll give him a day or two & if all stays good, I'll close this thread.
