    Gmail in browser

I have used gmail for 5 years in ie, chrome or Firefox and windows vista, 7 and 8.
after upgrading to 8.1 gmail will load but individual mails will not open. I can read mail in windows mail but as I monitor 2 gmail accounts it is not convenient to use.
    any fixes?

Are you using the metro/modern version of IE or the desktop version of IE?

Personally, I just use Thunderbird and Gmail's IMAP service. I can monitor as many accounts as I need and with a unified inbox, it's really quite simple.

I am using ie desktop version. Even with chrome and Firefox the emails can not be opened.

Check Internet Options > Internet properties > Security > Enable protected mode.

Then that suggests you have something else installed that is messing with things. A firewall or some other kind of security program is the most likely source.

Also, have you tried the "classic mode" Gmail interface. I rarely use the web interface, but I assume that one is still there. Reverts back to where each email is a separate HTTP GET operation as opposed to using AJAX scripting. It's slow and cumbersome, but at least functional.

I use the modern mail app in windows 8.1 to monitor 2 separate gmail accounts using imap, and have no problems. There must be something else messing with access in a browser, as Asvent said in his post. Some security setting or third party browser add-on.

I have used Gmail for sometime maybe about 7 years with IE8 to IE11 and Chrome Browser, no problem at all with the Webmail Interface.
Also used Email client software like Outlook Express and now Windows Live Mail, and have tried Windows 8 Mail App and Thunderbird. They all work with Gmail.

I keep add-ons to Web Browsers to an essential minimum.

That points to something wrong with your Browsers, maybe it's an add-on or some configuration thing. I would remove/disable all those apart from anything required by Gmail, and reset to defaults. See if that works and then work your way up with any add-ons one at a time.
I would also look to your Security application(s) configuration.

Well I also have had no problem either until I upgraded to 8.1. I have tried turning firewall off and resettting all defaults.
The gmails wont open, a loading message appears but nothing. Have tried security in both protected and unprotected mode.
As this is only since 8.1 upgrade can I hear from anyone who has upgraded to 8.1 and has gmail working.

I have been using gmail, as webmail, as my main, everyday e-mail and it's opened in a tab in FF all the time. Used it like that in all the windows prior to W8 and didn't have a problem like that thru the switch from W8 to 8.1 and update 1 and all the updates since. Also using Avast and let it check e-mail without a hitch. Firewall is on at default and so are other security settings in windows. FF was synced with IE settings and bookmarks when installed. My Google account is also at it's default settings as I had for many years.
