Help with blocking spam

Hi All,

I think I'm left with no choice but to set up a new email address because of the hundreds of spam I get everyday.

The problem started with spam coming in from one of my WordPress sites. So I changed my email address and the password for the site. That did not work. I changed my password for my email, that did not work. I set up rules in Outlook 2010, that only partially works, even though the spam all comes from one site, my own WP site. Even though the email addresses of the spam all start with my sites name, the rule in Outlook only catches about 10% of that spam.

I set up Spam Assassin on my C panel from my host, that did not work.

Before I close the email address I've had for 12 years, is there any suggestions anyone can make to help me stop receiving about 500 spams a day?

Hate to say it, but if there were an easy answer to the spam problem, we wouldn't have a spam problem still.

That said, while there are a lot of things to like about Outlook, spam filtering isn't one of them. Something like Mozilla Thunderbird might serve you better. It has an adaptive spam filter that basically learns to tell spam from legitimate email over time. It takes a bit of patience to train it early on, but eventually it will get more and more accurate. I think it can achieve a maximum theoretical 98% accuracy based on the mathematical methods used to determine what is and isn't spam. Thunderbird isn't the only program with such a spam filter, but it's probably as close as you're going to get to feature parity with Outlook.

Thanks. I already use Thunderbird for my other website email address. I find it's functionality poor and it takes a lot longer to go through my emails on TB than Outlook.

I'm now trying Cloudmark Outlook add in spam filter. I'll see how that goes.

I think the person who invents an effective pre-email delivery spam filter will make millions. My ISP has nothing.

Cheers

Take the e-mails address, and put into outlooks block list. Easy.

The other day I had 800 spam messages, interspersed with my regular email, wish it was easy.

I've actually solved the issue. I had a form on a website, which I'd forgotten about and it had no Captcha, I fixed that and instantly, no more spam.

I'd love to know what is the mentality behind people who create spam, none of the spam were selling anything. It was just annoyance messages. It must take so much of their time to do this. Or is done by robots? Can anyone really get a kick out of doing something like that?

Thanks for all your help everyone.

Cheers

Rob

Spam filters are sometimes worse than spam itself, a lot of innocent email can end up in spam so I gave up on that long time ago because than there are two places you have look at and besides they got infective with all the "Bots" on internet. Instead, I have one or two "serious" E-mail accounts which I watch carefully not to give to just anyone. Also couple of webmail accounts which I can "kill" from time to time and replace.

G-mail has a really good system for routing spam into the spam folder. When you or anyone else on G-mail mark something as spam, G-mail will then route those messages into the spam folder for everyone. Sort of a group voting spam filter. Works really well.

Yes, I use one Gmail acc as a "general address" and thru webmail, once you put a message in Spam folder, all the messages from same place go there.
