I"m trying to move mail from a dead windows XP laptop to a new Windows 8.1 laptop. The old, oddly, used Office 2010 on XP Pro SP3 32-bit. Not sure why, but it kept two *.pst files simultaneously in two locations, the bigger being the default Outlook.pst.
What I'm wondering is: in Windows 8/8.1, there is a Mail app. Is that Mail App the exact same as current "Live Mail", and is it possible to directly import CONTACTS, and Mail, and settings, from the Outlook.pst file? and the other [named by the account, i.e. "centurymail.pst"]. ?? The user is so bewildered at this point, he cares not which mail client is used, he hates them all with equal animus....

thank you for your expert guidance!

Stick with Office 2010. Each email account has its own .pst file. That is why you see multiple .pst files.
