Catch 22 is setting up e-mail in Windows 8.1

I am trying to set up a new Toshiba Satellite C55 laptop. It has Windows 8.1 installed. The mail app has been uninstalled. I can go to the Windows store where the Mail app is a free download, but you have to be registered to download it. They require you to verify your e-mail address as a part of the registration procedure but the only computers I have with that address are running Windows XP so the verify box in the query will not work. In other words I can't set up an e-mail account since I don't have the Mail app and can't down load the free Mail app since I don't have e-mail in a Windows 8 or 8.1 machine. Have spent hours on net trying to find a workaround, No luck.

Thanks. That seemed like a simple way around the problem. I downloaded and installed Windows Live Mail and set up my user account. I have done that for my Comcast e-mail account on numerous computers with never any problem. Guess I am jinxed. The laptop neither sends nor receives e-mails. I double checked with Comcast -- my ISP provider -- to make sure the ports I used for POP and SMTP were current. They are -- but still nothing goes in or out.

Believe it or not, I have spent a day just trying to get e-mail to work on this laptop.

PS
The internet connection is excellent -- just measured 30.42 Mbps down and 6.30 up
