Gmail - no delivery

I have a friend in my contacts list but can receive no emails from him. Gmail is my email provider. It may be something stupidly simple or extremely complex but he is the only one on my contacts I cannot receive anything from?

Try sending them a mail direct from https://mail.google.com/ and get him/her to reply. Then we can see if that works or it goes to your junk folder. If that works then it could be issue with your mail program. What are you using?

gmail is my email. I also have a yahoo account which I use for FB notifications only. I am going to try that one later on when he is home. Cheers Adam.

What I meant was it is possible that mail could work direct from https://mail.google.com/ through the web browser but not work if you used Outlook or Windows Live Mail or something to access the account.

Anyway give it a try and we'll see what happens. Could be anything - perhaps he can't spell your address even - which is why replying is a good test.

I emailed him and he got it, but nothing came back. Anyway I skyped him. I'll have to check his settings or get him to reinput them.

Have you checked your spam folder? If he fails to deliver it he should get a failure to deliver message like below. If he doesn't you should have it and the only place I can think is in spam...

thats the first place I looked - he gets no notification whatsoever that his email has not got through, which is also strange. He is in 'the sticks' and on BT internet.

The only other thing I can think is to make up a new temporary gmail account and you send a mail from your current gmail and he sends one also. If yours makes it and his doesn't then the problem must be his end. I doubt it can be internet if skype works but mails could be stuck in an outbox waiting to be sent.

Sorry - I'm out of ideas here. Perhaps someone else will chip in.

Adam, many thanks for the tips, I followed what I had not already done. I just sent him two images on an email, not only did he get them, but he replied!!!! BUT he still cannot send directly. Weird?

Might simply be a Port blocking issue -- usually people can RECEIVE emails anywhere but SENDING them away from your home ISP such as when you are in a hotel can be problematic. Even hideous WEB servers don't always work 100% OK on SEND when you are away from "Home Base".

I find (it doesn't cost much) this facility (AUTHSMTP) works brilliantly - it's only a FEW EUR a year and you can use Outlook or whatever email client you want when you aren't on your home ISP. For up to 1000 emails a month it's only 32 USD (about 28 EUR) a YEAR !!! IMO if you travel a lot well worth it.

Outgoing authenticated SMTP server and email relay service (solves most SMTP and email relay errors).
