Is there a way to tell YouTube not to preload too much?

    Hello,

I got a new 4G connection. But I don't have an unlimited data usage plan.

Since it is 4G, the internet speed is extremely fast. As a result, while I watch YouTube videos, YouTube buffers the whole video in seconds. This means, if I click on a video of 10 minutes length, and after watching the video for 5 minutes... let's say I don't wanna watch the whole thing and close the tab. It means that although I watched for 5 minutes, I used up the data for 10 minutes since YouTube had streamed the whole video within seconds after I clicked on the video.

Is there a way to tell YouTube NOT to preload way too ahead of the point I'm currently watching?

People usually want it the other way around. I can think only about something like NetLimiter or NetBalancer.

FF has setting to change amount of cache, I don't know if that would limit of Youtube videos but it's chance it would work.

    Try Netflix.
Much better quality. & it uses Silverlight instead of Flash.

Note--- I am just a user. I have no connection with Netflix in any way.

For $8/month it's a pretty good deal, IMHO.

The movies don't stutter either in video or sound.
Of course you need Silverlight which is free from Microsoft.

    I got tired of YouTube.
As you probably know, some stuff there won't play unless you have a vpn connection.
The legality of which is questionable.

    In my mind anyways.

The choice of media with Netflix is broad.
Some crap, but a lot of good quality stuff.

They give a 30 day free trial.

If you don't like it you can trash it.

I wouldn't post about it unless I thought you might prefer it to YouTube.

I still watch some things there.
YouTube does have some good stuff.

This is my 23rd day & I will keep Netflix.
Unless it screws up on me. Click image for larger version

Excuse my ignorance as Netflix is not available here but aren't YT and Netlix two different things ? I mean, YT has free content and is not specialized for movies and TV shows but a free service that almost anybody can place his stuff as long as it adheres to some rules ?

Netflix: "Not available at your location yet", pity. Youtube I use a lot. Mostly old documentaries.

I have a vpn connection through Avast---

I just opened it & chose Prague as my location.
On NetFlix I reloaded the movie & got this error message---

If you had a vpn connection you could select somewhere in the USA as your location & most probably get NetFlix.
    This is not illegal.
