    Windows Live Mail Problem

Yesterday I had to do a complete Refresh on my Windows 8.1 OS. All my Windows Live Mail messages were deleted, and I am trying to recover them. I reinstalled Live Mail, but none of my stored emails showed up. Thus far, I have spent many futile hours attempting to recover them. I have scoured the internet looking for a solution, but nothing I have tried works. Any ideas on how I can recover these emails and put them into my current Live Mail account? I greatly appreciate any assistance offered.

Unsure if a refresh deletes data, not sure on this

    have a look in

    C:\users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft

In here your mail is all stored in the 'Windows Live Mail' folder, see if by any chance it has created a backup copy of this folder

If it has copy all the contents of the backup one into the 'Windows Live Mail' folder, launch WLM and it should look as it did

If no backup, what is the total size of the 'Windows Live Mail' folder here, does it look big enough to have all your mails in it?

Is there an Email facility in your ISP? That would possibly be the best answer.

If you had a "Live" MS account, then signing in should recover your original Email
Alternatively, try a search on your computer for *.eml, and see if it comes up with a source.

Hello JCM, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Since you refreshed Windows, you should of had a C:\Windows.old folder created that contains a copy of your previous installation.

While inside the C:\Windows.old folder, look for the same location that Paul posted above to see if your .eml files (messages) may still be there. If so, then you can use Option Two in the METHOD TWO section of the tutorial below as a guide to help restore these messages back into Windows Live Mail.

    Windows Live Mail Problem

My sincere thanks to Paul, Dave and Brink! Brink, your suggestion to look into the Windows.old folder did the trick. Everything, including my e-mails, were there. I had no idea such a folder existed. Thankyou all for taking the time to assist me with this vexing problem - I spent many hours attempting to remedy this problem, and your assistance was very much appreciated.

    Best Regards,
    jcm
