Well, If you want to do it quick then just copy everything under:
    C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail
to a USB stick then copy it to your Windows 8/8.1 on the same path then everything is ready including your Accounts.

    Thanks Shawn.

I did not understand the need to move the data, I thought it was a W8 thing, anyway the Tut helped a lot.

Thanks for the link and the Tut

    regards

    Hi

I tried that, it didn't work, no idea why, logic says it should but PC's are art not science :-)

Then again, maybe it was just me

    Thanks and regards

I have a total of 3 PC's and a laptop and this is what I did for all of them.
    1. First install Windows Live Mail, dont setup any account, just exit.
    2. Delete everything under Windows Live Mail folder then copy what you saved from the other machine.
    3. Run Windows Live Mail. Your account(s) and emails should be ready without additional setup.

"Delete everything under Windows Live Mail folder"

    that's the bit I missed.

    Brink,

Thanks for the tutorial.. excellent. I was trying to move my old email from Vista Windows Live Mail to 8.1 Windows Live Mail but could not find it after importing from a thumb drive. Clicking on the Import file did not display anything in the window. None of the other sources I found on line mentioned to DOUBLE CLICK the Import File.

    Thanks again.
