How to set Google search preferences to English?

Okay guys, here's a question about Google's search engine.

This may not be the most appropriate forum for this type of question, but I'll ask, since I'm here, and it is related to web browsers, sort of...

Whenever I search in Google I get the local google.rs, and a little box pops up on the right giving me an option to "Switch to English".

Now, I work from home, so I'm online all day and I search on Google quite a lot. I do not want to change my search engine, if I can fix the problem.

The problem is that I do not want it to keep redirecting to the local .rs google search engine, and then ask me every time if I want to switch to English or keep the local language. It's annoying, it wastes my time, and I've noticed that a lot of times if I change it to English it actually displays different results than it does if I let it search with the local .rs google search engine.

    So...

Any way to change this gestapo setting and make it Always search the English search engine?

    Thanks guys.

p.s I'm getting the same problem in Firefox and Chrome, so I'm guessing it's just Google imposing their will up over my will and being Fascist!

You could use a google account (gmail etc) and set it there in their preferences and use chrome.

Alternatively if you use google.co.uk it doesn't force you into the language based on your IP like google.com does (in my case google.com switches to google.fr but google.co.uk seems to remain in English). I use this latter option.

To get what you want to, you don't have to sign in to a Google account nor do you have to use Google.com instead of your local Google.rs. Cookies have to be allowed, though.

    Do this:

Click Settings on bottom right at Google.rs, select Search settings:

Select Language, set the preferred language for Google:

Staying on Languages page, click Edit:

Set languages in which you want results to be shown. Click Save and you are done:

That works Kari, but one must keep the Google cookie or you'll have to take those steps every time one wants to use search.

Yes, exactly as I mentioned. It's up to user to decide: achieving what this OP wants, allowing Google to store cookies is the only option. There are no other ways to save the language information.

Yeah, but that would mean that I would have to first open that link and then perform my search every single time... I do 100s of searches on some days, it's not a solution for me...

    Thanks

About using a google account. I have 2 google accounts, and I use one on chrome and 1 on firefox. I do the same thing on 2 different lap tops. This won't work because it would mean that I'd have to login every time and then search for things, I don't want to have to think about that every time...

As far as using google.co.uk, how would I set it as the Default? When I click in the upper right corner and the drop down menu appears, I can select Manage Search Engines, and then there is NO option to input a Custom URL there, I can only select "get more search engines" which will take me to an add-on sort of page, where if i look and search there is no .co.uk or anything else like that...

How do I do that? For the address bar or for the other search engines bar?

See, I just want the right part to not redirect... But if I can get both the address bar and the other one to not redirect, then that's a plus...
