I have Outlook 2013 and my mail from Roadrunner is not always downloading from RR. Sometimes I have to click "work offline" and then switch it off to get my mail to download. Sometimes that doesn't even work.

My question isn't how to fix it, since I tried asking and got no replies. So now I'm asking is it possible to download Windows Live? I have it on my laptop and it works good. Is it compatible with 8.1? And how do I "just" download Live? I tried downloading today and first of all it was done downloading and nothing happened. I hate that. I had to search around for the download and then discovered I had the writer, messenger and some cloud. I DO NOT WANT THOSE.... will never use them. I just want the mail program and why doesn't it install as soon as the download is finished? I can never find the download again because the name of the file is never what it should be. Help!

Question: How can I get just Live Mail and how can I install it when there are no directions.
Or what mail program would you suggest for POP since RR won't give me encrypted.

Windows Live includes some other apps such as Messenger, Skydrive (now called OneDrive) etc... and It is compatible with W8.1.
It is your responsibility to decide where you want to download it but the default is normally in the download folder. Again, it is your responsibility to decide what you want to install, If you want to install just Windows Live Mail then uncheck the others then they won't be installed.

Hope this helps.

I clicked to only download mail but got the other junk too. I'll try it again. But the download never started. Any idea what the name of the file is?

It is called Windows Essentials, just click on this link and click on download.
Windows Essentials: Other Programs - Microsoft Windows

Once you downloaded it, double click to run BUT pay attention to what it says on the screen, just check on what you want to install, in this case is: Windows Live Mail.

For your info, it is easy for you to keep track, just download to the desktop so you don't have to hunt for it, Here's how you set up so all the download will be put on the desktop.

HELP!

OK I have it now, but it wasn't easy. I had to use control panel to find it "mail". Now not only did it not put an icon on my desktop, it didn't automatically put in my POP etc. Now I have to find out what it is. I have forgotten.

What am I doing wrong?

If the username and password is correct then I would have to assume as well that some sort of security is blocking the transmission of new messages and such. Make sure you have an exception for this program in both your firewall and anti virsus.

None of those worked, finally I went into my laptop and copied what was there.
