Outlook.com and SMS integration with 8.1

Not really a support question, but rather an observation on some behavior I have not seen reported anywhere.

First off, I have 8.1 on all devices (Workstation, Surface 2, and Phone).

The other night I was working on getting all my accounts set up on outlook.com (I'm making the official jump from google, or rather using outlook as the agrigator for all my mail accounts). I received a text with an image on my phone (MMS/SMS). I noticed the same text appeared in my Unread mail with an image attachment. "That's cool" I thought. I showed the wife and went on about my business.

The next day I was telling a coworker about it, and opened outlook to show him, and it wasn't there. I searched, and nothing. I must be going crazy, because I swear it happened.

Well last night again; text message came, and there it is in outlook, in the unread category. Again, not in the inbox (and apparently not associated with any folder or category). This time I selected it, and chose move to inbox and associated it with a new category "SMS". Now its persisted.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but its really pretty cool. I would really like to see the message automatically persisted in the SMS category (or better yet have an SMS folder that all texts would go into so not to have them in my inbox).

Having all devices on 8.1 almost daily I get wowed by something new. So far its been really brilliant, especially Cortana! The syncing of settings between all devices is really *REALLY* impressive.

    SMS with Outlook.com?

Is it still working? Are you able to SEND and RECEIVE text messages from your outlook.com inbox without touching your phone? I used to use this type of feature with Windows Mobile 6.5 (I think?) many years ago. I am looking through my outlook.com e-mail settings to see if its a feature that can be enabled.

It works if you have a windows 8 phone. You cannot reply.

Messages only show up if you do not mark them as read on the phone (ie. my phone is in the other room, and it receives a text, it will appear in outlook.com). If you read them from Outlook.com, they get marked read on your phone as well. If you move them into your inbox, the are removed from your phone. Seems some type of intentional design, but its not fully developed (I assume its a work in progress).

I've been lead to believe there will be a "Messaging" folder coming in the future that will show all your messaging history be it Google, SMS, Facebook, etc.

I have a Windows Phone (Nokia Lumia 920), but I am not able to duplicate what you are describing (SMS messages from Windows Phone showing up in Outlook.com inbox). Now I don't have a surface, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2 and its running Windows 8.1 (not Pro, just regular). I would love to see a way to Receive and Send SMS through Outlook.com. I'm on my computer all day long and I hate having to reply to messages when I can type 100 words / minute on a computer and only 20 words per minute on the QWERTY Keyboard. I'll keep researching and hope (fingers crossed) this feature rolls out. Thanks for the reply.
