Java will randomly stop working in all browsers

Latest Java updates (64bits and 32bits) work for a while then stop with no warning. Be it HTML chat rooms -not loading- or embedded videos or whatever else. That is on ALL browsers not just IE. Opera, Chrome, Firefox....they all stop working.
(on a strange note, trying to play an embedded video in Opera will result in Opera downloading it rather than playing it)

I shut down all anti viruses, turned off the windows firewall. Uninstalled and reinstalled javas. Even went as far as a full system refresh after which Java again worked for a while then stopped again.

What else can I do? I am at my wit's end.

    Hey mate,

Use an uninstaller program, such as Revo Uninstaller free (though Revo Free does not offer 64bit uninstalls, so the issue may persist). Java has an uninstaller, but it is usually for older java programs. Give it a try after using a program like Revo, nonetheless: Why should I uninstall older versions of Java from my system? - Next, double check that there are no java entries remaining in the Windows Control Panel Uninstall Programs section. If there are, remove them.

Install all important updates through Windows Update. Restart. Attempt to install the newest java version here: http://java.com/en/download/win8.jsp

Verify that it has been installed correctly here: Verify Java Version

Best of luck, let me know how it turns out.

Sorry, nothing is working but I have found a way to fix the problem. Go out, trade in my windows 8 computer as it is still in warranty and get a windows 7 machine because at this point I am just fed up

Alright, but a different Windows computer isn't a guarantee that this problem will go away forever. This isn't the fault of the computer, but of some software conflict that should be solvable. In other words, if you like windows 7 better, go for it, but this isn't a 'windows 8 vice', as java works perfectly well on most computers.

You mentioned video earlier. Video is usually through flash. Are you having trouble with flash?

What antivirus program do you have? Some do in fact interfere with other programs. Sometimes, removing an antivirus program just to troubleshoot if the problem persists can be a good idea. You will need a program like revo to do so, because antivirus programs are known to leave stuff behind, and that can cause problems in the future. Speaking of which, have you ever had another antivirus program that you uninstalled WITHOUT an uninstaller? Even one that came with the computer? 'shutting it down' doesn't stop it from interfering with your computer, so you'd need to uninstall it completely. Remember, this is just temporary. You'll want to have an antivirus program installed (or use defender built-in) before you start browsing the internet to unknown websites.

If you fear your computer is infected, Malwarebytes Free is a great program to scan your pc in addition to an antivirus program, because it is known to be stable, and catches unwanted things in your computer that many antivirus programs overlook.

Never is there a need to turn off windows firewall. I recommend turning it on and keeping it on, even for troubleshooting.

If this doesn't help, let me know, and I'll dig further. I can only help as far as you're willing to go. Good luck in whatever you decide, and take care.

Java is same one on Win 7 as is for 8. Some browsers keep turning it off by default as "Unsafe". FF requires permission to start it.

Alright here is what I know

I did whole system refresh, tried with everything in the original default settings. The problem persisted, tried every troubleshooting tip offered by Java. Called MS tech support (who told me to call Java tech support and pay like 50 a minute or whatever).

Tried with uninstallers, Firewall on or off, removed the antivirus (Norton) altogether and several combinations of the above and STILL randomly both Java AND FLASH stopped working (flash admittedly mostly on Opera/firefox and they offered to DL videos before playing them).

Furthermore, my friends in the HTML chat rooms circles report that A LOT of users have issues with the rooms while using Windows 8 and have my same problem. Worse still, it seems a random occurrence as some users working on default windows 8 report no problems while others (many others) working on the sane default windows 8 are stuck (maybe it is a manufacturer thing)

So I broke down and returned my windows 8 machine and got a windows 7 (funny that, I had to go to a non-chain store because best buy phased out ALL windows 7 machines and offers them only on order)

    All works fine so far

Stupid Flash, crashing all over the place but as of lately it recovers too. Java I keep off as much as I can, so obviously no much problems with it. Luckily Flash seem to be going out as HTML5 takes slowly over, can't wait to get rid of it.

I just can't believe MS support told me that I had to call Java and ask (and pay) them.

That's because Java is not a part of windows or M$ program.
