"needs attention" - problems with windows 8.1 mail app

I run several mail accounts over the 8.1 mail app. Had no trouble until a recent major 8.1 update. Since then I have problems with 4 mail accounts: 2x gmail and 2x yahoo.

Under two of my gmail accounts is the text “needs attention”. If I click on these, a “connecting to server” (white) window opens, requiring email name and password – if I once again fill these in and click “sign in” - I then get told that this account already exists!

I am also unable to delete these two gmail accounts, and try setting them up again, because in: (mail app) settings, then accounts – there is no option to delete these 2 email accounts – and I am unable to get in to the accounts.

For the 2 yahoo accounts the words “check settings” are under. In this case I have to re-enter my password and the email will open, but the next time I start computer I get the same problem again!

Other gmail accounts work without any problem!

    Anybody know the solution?
    thanks

Sorry to read you’re having a problem, xyz.

Please bear with me for I had a Google account when I had my Droid, but since purchased a Windows phone and deleted the Google account, so some of this will be from memory. I now only have one MS account of which I use to sign into my PC.

I recollect having the same problem with the Google account. If I remember correctly I ended up abandoning the method of going through the Mail app when the “needs attention” warning came up and signed into the Google account online to care of some permissions there. Never had a Yahoo account, but wondering if it’s the same fix there?

Also what came to mind since a lot of these apps run in conjunction is whether you have permissions to save passwords in IE even though you may not use that browser. Just a hunch if any other solutions don’t work.

Hope that helps. I know it’s frustrating, but hang in there with the app for it’s a good app.

Same problem with email accounts "needs attention"

New to Windows 8.1 and this forum so be patient. I am having the exact same problem with an email account that "needs attention". Unfortunately, it is my main gmail account and so has not been updated. How can I remove both accounts from the Mail app to start over? When I try to connect to the gmail service to provide the attention, I sign in, the app appears to be updating the Gmail account, and then I get the message that "there was a problem connecting to Gmail. Do you want to try again?". Despite repeated efforts, I am unable to get this to work. I think if I can just scrap all of it and go through the mail setup process again, I would simply link only my main email to the Mail app. Any ideas about how I might do that? Thanks for any help.

    Welcome to Windows EightForums, jem1997.

I guarantee there’s nothing wrong with the app. It’s Google’s end. Did you sign in online to take care of the issue there as I suggested?

To remove an account: Charms bar > Settings > Accounts > Tap an account > Choose “Remove account”

I use a gmail account (actually 2) on mail (both windows live mail and the mail app) and they are fine. I appreciate it isn't a particularly helpful answer but don't assume google is incompatible with microsoft because (at least in this case) it is not.

If I were you I'd delete the account(s), reboot and then add again. It takes a while to synchronise depending on how many mails you have and want to download.

There is an assumption here you want to keep it - if not just delete it.

I have tried to do this but the option to remove one account is grayed out...and the other account is the one that is trying to connect to Gmail. When I went online as suggested, there was nothing there that looked out of place. I would like to get rid of both accounts and do the setup from the beginning. Any idea how I might do that?
