chrome wants windows password to show me my passwords

ok..so I went into my passwords in chrome as I'd forgotten my rooster teeth password, and when I clicked 'show password' it asks me to enter my windows password, this is new behavior I've not seen in chrome before and I cannot find any documentation on it.

Sounds like it's trying to link to Windows Credentials Manager. I'd look at that carefully!

This must be google's response to the ballyhoo over chrome's "exposing" saved passwords:

I don't know why they didn't use your google password. Perhaps in securityland access to the physical PC is controlled by the OS.

I haven't checked this feature in a while, but you're right -- it NOW requires the Windows password in order to see the saved passwords.

I would hope google is just using an api call to get the permission and does not have access to the entered password itself. It would help if companies would explain changes like this instead of just dropping them on us.

..I cant even find it in the program documentation..if you can call what you get when you go to the features section of the google chrome website 'user documentation'...for fraks sake firefox has more extensive documentation than that.
