Don't think there is any global setting in Windows for HA. Application specific.

Wow, hardware acceleration is the problem. Here's a before picture...

For whatever reason, it took colors from the page elements and buttons and went crazy with them. HA off, problem solved. I wonder why I never had this with Windows 7 though.

A lot of these problems will be dependant on the graphics hardware you're using, the drivers and the version of firefox. I'm using ATI graphics with firefox Nightly and everything is working quite well, although in benchmarks, firefox is pretty poor compared to same benchmarks under Windows 7. Until Mozilla update firefox - assuming it's a Mozilla problem - to use the latest HWA features of Windows 8, we'll just have t make do.

For anyone interested in Mozillas plans for a Metro version of firefox and for some interesting background information, you may find Windows8 of interest.

Fix is to disable HA. It's there for me using firefox nightly. In Firefox Options - Advanced - General tab. Use hardware acceleration when available. Disable it. Restart browser. Gone.

Bug has been there for months. No one fixes it. NVidia and/or firefox. Thinking it is a bug on nVidias side. Shame you have to disable HA to get rid of it.

Appears to finally be fixed with the Nvidia 302.80 Windows 8 certified drivers.

I'm having similar problems with all browsers (including IE) and an ATI card (12.10 driver). The fonts will not render properly and look blurry at first. With quick browsing/scrolling it can take a couple of seconds for them to "fix" themselves. Disabling hardware acceleration, on Firefox at least, solves it,

can someone tell me if this problem exists with the commercial release build of windows 8 and firefox 16.0.2 and if disabling HA fixes it?

"Yes" to all questions. I'd suggest you try out the Firefox-based Pale Moon browser. The author will fix this particular issue in the next version (and it's a better browser, 64-bit too).
