is there a way to get desktop notifications of new emails from the metro mail app? All I can find is for the lockscreen.

well, you can get it in the start screen as the mail app has a live tile and notifies you when you have new mail.

yeah, I'm looking for it show a pop-up notification on the desktop though. Doesn't look like it does that.
