    Text "Red Shift" during vertical scrolling?

    Text "Red Shift" during vertical scrolling? I've noticed it with Firefox 27.0, Pale Moon 24,3,2, and Operax64 12.14. The text on forums looks normal until I move the vertical scrollbar with the mouse. While the text is moving it takes on a red tint. As soon as the scrolling stops, it reverts to normal color.

    Pretty weird. Only thing I did lately was use a program to calibrate the Gamma.

    Then again the forum subject lines are easier to read now. Maybe I'll just live with it.

    It's probably due to slow video card/ display refresh response. Same happens on my old Dell LCD monitor, and as my other more modern LCD monitor died on me, I have to use my old CRT for now. Small fonts get fuzzy when scrolling but much less with some fonts then other ones.

    Hmmm, I played around with Clear Type adjustment. That seems to have fixed it.

    Hi friend,

    Both Intel and AMD have the ability to adjust the gamma without the need for 3rd-party tools. I remember AMD had it in their CCC and Intel has it here:

    I used the Intel one above, in conjunction with this test page, to optimize gamma for my viewing preferences:

    @my2cents

    I know. I used the AMD software first. It fixed it for a time. I saw the 3rd party tool on a download site and decided to try it. It did seem like the gamma adjustment was a bit easier to use. If your eyes are less than 30 years old you might not see the difference. But for me the 3rd party tool made it easier to detect both the state of the "dots" and the color tinge.

    Edit: I see by your profile you are unlikely to be under 30, unless they had a wicked early retirement buy out or something.

    You were quite observant in reviewing my profile and you are accurate in your statement that I am not under 30; however, I will tell you that I was able to retire at a very young age due to a nice buyout combined with some very lucky investment strategies. So, I'm glad the 3rd party software worked out for you but I prefer to adjust the gamma to "what actually looks good to me." The bottom line for me is "when it looks good with my eyes, then its OK." Now, if you were calibrating to be in line with what others see, then I can understand your use of a 3rd party software; however, my eyes like a gamma of 0.7 for viewing and I revert back to the driver default values when I'm building a website so I can see what others see (which is not necessarily the best viewing for my eyes).

    Cheers friend!

    Update: OOPS! In my previous post, I said I liked a gamma of 0.7; however, that is incorrect because that is the driver setting which really equates to a gamma of 2.2 for my eyes. I also mentioned the default driver value (1.0) which really equates to value of 1.8 for my eyes. Sorry about that.

    For some reason the red shift came back. So I tried another called QuickGamma

    This doesn't mess with the dots. Instead it shows the numbers. I read through all this help stuff, which was a bit confusing. But once I started to play with the Up and Down controls I saw that the Red was higher than the others. I just brought the value down until the Red was at 2.20. The red shift on scroll seems to be gone. Also the web pages look quite different. There seems to be much more contrast that before. So I'll hope for the best.

    Edit: seems to be no happy medium. I get rid of the red shift, but the contrast is almost like high contrast mode. I have the screen brightness adjusted below 1/2 on the slider but the screen is still too bright. I miss my old VX900 CRT. The viewing area was a bit warped at the edges but I didn't have any of these color or contrast issues. Oh well. I'll probably end up with it back as it was eventually.

    Edit2: I'm starting to see what you mean about the built in settings. I found the AMD Catalyst Control Center. It actually has a contrast adjustment now. btw here's the page with the smiley. There's a few good ones on it:
