IE11 always hangs

Hi

I have W8.1 and IE11 always hangs after about 1 hour, all tabs do not respond and the top of the page says Internet Explorer (not Responding).

I can leave it for a couple of hours and nothing happens, when I right click on the IE on the taskbar and select
close window an error message comes up that IE is not responding and if I click "close" nothing happens, if I click search for solution and restart, a new IE restarts but the original stays and remains "not responding".

Even Task Manager cannot close it down I have to reboot to get rid of it.

Any ideas how to fix this, I believe I have the attest version of IE11 (11.01)

Cheers

Daniel

Hi

it is still happening, this time after 20 minutes of using IE11. Much earlier versions of IE had a repair function, pity this one does not.

Are you having trouble with a specific website?

Have you tried to disable any Add-ons?

Hi

there is no specific website and I have Google Search and Shockwave Flash Object enabled in
Add-ons, everything else is disabled.

I have just done a repair install of W8.1 and run all updates, I did that yesterday, but the problem persists.

Cheers

Interesting, first try running IE without any add-ons. IE11 already has Flash built-in so its not necessary to install. I have also seen Google cause issues before.

Disable ALL IE add-ons::

Press :winkey: + R > Type: iexplore -extoff > enter

If the issue persists without any add-ons, one of IE's components might be damaged. In which case I suggest running the following..

DISM::

Press :winkey: + X > select Command Prompt (Admin) > Type: dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

If dism reports the store is repairable run > dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Next run SFC::

Press :winkey: + X > select Command Prompt (Admin) > Type: sfc /scannow

Hi

Doing this

Disable ALL IE add-ons::

Press :winkey: + R > Type: iexplore -extoff > enter

did not help, same problem.

I'm going to try

DISM::

Press :winkey: + X > select Command Prompt (Admin) > Type: dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

Cheers

lol I was guessing that one of them was the problem here, since they often do things of this nature. Google: "Norton IE Freeze" to see what I mean.

Here is another tool that might help.

Hi

thanks for the tool, but to be on the safe side, what does it do?

Thanks

This script will re-register all dll's located in System32 & SysWow64 folders. In certain situations it's a quick way resolve common problems. If you would like to view it's contents simply right click the file and choose edit.

Otherwise, it requires you run the script as an Administrator.

The next step will essentially perform a repair on IE. This action will not remove any saved bookmarks.

Open Control Panel > Select Uninstall a Program > Select Turn Windows features on or off > Uncheck Internet Explorer 11 > Click OK.

-Restart-

Open Control Panel > Select Uninstall a Program > Select Turn Windows features on or off > Check Internet Explorer 11 > Click OK.

-Restart-

If this doesn't fix your issue we will need to look a little deeper into other possible causes.

Hi

I've done that and will report in a couple of days if there are no problems, sooner if there are.

BTW, I did not run the batch file you provided, I assumed it was not required.
