How to set default download locations

Greetings. Hope everybody had a good new years. Just wondering if anybody knows how to set a particular folder as the default location for a specific file type, or, in the event that's not possible, just set it as the default location for all file types. Mainly I'm interested in setting one specific folder as default for every time I right click on an image and choose save as. I'm tired of having to browse through to my images folder each and every time. It didn't used to do this until I upgraded to windows 8.1 so I'm not sure if it's a windows issue or an internet explorer issue. Any light you can shed on options for a solution are highly appreciated. I don't really use "libraries" as there are only two folders I use for downloads. One is for images. The other is for everything else. I don't mind having to browse to my downloads folder, just not the images folder as that is generally what I download the most since I work with graphics a lot. Thanks.

Not exactly sure I'm clear what you want, but if it's concerning Internet Explorer, than in Internet Explorer, Tools, View Downloads, click Options, choose a location....

Yeah, that works for executables, but for some reason images keep defaulting to This PC > Pictures. And I am using internet explorer 11. Thanks.

Yeah for those I'm not sure you can specify, but than again I haven't looked that hard. I also don't remember that being a feature in Windows 7, unless I'm missing something ?

This works for IE 9, 10 and 11.......I use option 3. I like to decide where each download is saved.

Bass, thanks for the info, but as I said, it doesn't work for images. If you click on a download link, then yes, it will open up a dialog with the folder you specified, however, if let's say, you are browsing google images, and right click an image to save it, the dialog that comes up 99% of the time seems to be windows 8 pictures folder. Occasionally it will actually open a dialog to the last folder I browsed into and saved an image into, but almost always it's the pictures folder. There used to be an option somewhere to set the "save as" default location to "last folder used", so that once you had saved a file type into that folder, say, a .jpg or .png, it went to the last place you saved a file of that type. Since windows 8 or internet explorer 11, not sure which is the culprit, it doesn't do that. Thanks.

I can select any image, whether in a browser or on my system, right click it and a window pops up and then I just tell it where I want it to go. I use the "save image as" from the menu that pops up when I right click on an image.

Have you tried a different browser to save and image and see if that menu is different then the menu in IE?

AH HA.....In IE 11 it's "save target as" or "save picture as"....and using both I can tell it where to save it to. Try resetting IE to default settings.
