Index Outlook IMAP mail folders with Windows search?

Hi all,

I was wondering if it's possible to have Windows search index my IMAP folders so that I could also search for e-mails via Windows search instead of having to go through Outlook's (2013) own search? What I googled seems to indicate "not possible" but maybe someone here has a trick...

Thanks, --ch

Are you saying you have Outlook 2013 installed on the PC?

If so, what happens if you go to the Start Screen and search for Indexing Options (within Settings on Windows 8)? For my older version of Outlook, I can add Outlook to the search index.

It already seems to be in there - but it doesn't find my mail... --ch

Try starting a search in File Explorer, with a string you want to find, then use the "Search Again In" dropdown- is Outlook shown there? If so, what happens?

No, no Outlook listed in "search again"...

Searching the long GUID (middle item) doesn't get anything either...

OK, now I see that if I hit "see more results" (using the classic start button search access provided by Start8) I do get the mails from Outlook. If I use the Win 8 search by just typing at the start screen, it defaults to "Everywhere" and mail is not found. If I change that to "Files" then it is found... I really don't get this... Why isn't "Everywhere" really everywhere??? How do I change the start button search to show mail? It does under Win7 and Vista...

Edit: my Windows 8.0 machine also finds my Outlook IMAP mail via search... So this is a bug introduced in 8.1???
