Disabling Bing in Windows 8.1 for address bar searches

I'm using google as my home page. I'm able to search just fine in google. But if I search from the address bar it always reverts to Bing. I turned off Bing through the settings but that doesn't seem to get rid of Bing for searching from the address bar. The only way I've found around this is to open up a new google search each time, which is time consuming. I'd like to be able to open google once and then continue searching from the address bar.

Hello CritterCreek, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Disabling both the search suggestions and top result search options for Bing using the same steps in OPTION ONE of the tutorial below should stop this for you.

That sort of works. Bing no longer shows up from an address bar search, but I can't search from the address bar with google. Bing is still listed as the default and google isn't on the list at all.

OK, I think I solved it. I downloaded google from the Internet Explorer Gallery and added it to the Add-ons list, then enabled google and moved it to the top of the list. It works perfectly. Thank you, Shawn. I've been trying to make Windows 8 work more like Windows 7 and am make a bit of progress day by day.

It appears that top result search is not a supported feature of the Google search provider. However, you might see if checking the Search in the address bar box may help more with this though.

    EDIT: Great news.
