Disable browsing history from being sent to Microsoft

Hello everyone

I have just upgraded Windows 8 on my Surface Pro to Windows 8.1 and quickly seen an option to enable/disable browsing history to be sent to Microsoft on one of the initial custom Settings pages which launch straight after an upgrade. I regret not have disabled this option as I don't want to have my browsing history be sent to them.

I have spent an hour Googling how this option can be disabled on Windows 8.1 with no luck and due to a lack of screenshots of the custom settings menu online, I cannot quote the exact wording of the checkbox option.

If anyone in this Forum knows how to disable your browsing history in Windows 8.1 or 8 from being sent to Microsoft, please let me know.

Thank you,

Ead

Hello Ead,

That setting would be for turning on/off the Flip Ahead with Page Prediction feature in the modern Internet Explorer. It is not available in the desktop Internet Explorer.

The tutorial below can help show you how to turn it off.

Thank you for the reply and links. That's exactly the Settings page I am referring to. I have in fact searched for relevant sections in the PC settings menu and the part of the Microsoft account settings described in the tutorial. Despite that, I could not find out how the option could be disabled. If you would not mind giving me a little more help, please.

Regards,

Ead

Ead,

I already did mate. That setting in the screenshot is only for turning on or off Page Prediction in modern IE. You could turn it off using the tutorial above for the same setting. :)

For some reason, Internet Options did not appear even though I had started IE 10 and clicked Privacy in the Charm on my Windows 8.1. As a workaround, I have manually deselected the same option in the Advanced mode on the Internet Options menu in IE 10 as shown in the screenshot.

I guess Internet Options should appear once IE 10 is launched as shown in Shawn's tutorial and don't know what Microsoft has done to it. But it should come as no surprise as they are always moving things around unnecessarily.

A merry Xmas!

To turn off the setting you originally wanted, you would want to uncheck this one instead.
