    Viewing Websites and Links

Ok..so upgraded to 8.1 from 8.0 in the hope it was more user friendly but no evidence so far but that's not my issue...now when I'm in Internet Explorer if I click on a link or even a webpage...it takes me to a blank screen that tells me to 'check the link'....if I refresh nothing happens but if I go back to the original link or web icon and try again it loads the page (sometimes takes a couple of goes to do it)...also it keeps asking me to 'login' to frequently used things like facebook and my Hotmail account which it never did in the past....when using 8.0 it was all good but nothing but trouble in 8.1
anyone else have the same problem or even better a solution

    Welcome to Windows EightForums, PhilO.

    Modern or desktop IE?

So far as the sign-ins are concerned > MS account or local when signing into PC?

    If you may not know > IE11 in 8.1 > IE10 in 8.

Try running the troubleshooter here: Microsoft Fix it Solution Center: troubleshooting software issues

I'm betting its a security thing. If that doesn't work you may want to run through these:

what I don't quite get is if this was a new car with all these problems I could just take it back to the dealer get a courtesy car and they'd get a qualified mechanic to fix it for me...as it's a new PC with problems I have to get a complete amateur (me) to try and attempt to understand a complicated machine and run a number of potential fixes, which may or may not work and may totally mess my machine up !!!!!

I understand your frustration, but quite honestly you altered the "car", therefore you have to take some responsibility.

Did it run good with 8? Did you upgrade via the store? If so, how long ago?

Did you change any of the settings in IE11? Did you run anything I linked?

it all ran well on 8.0, just upgraded through the Microsoft website and haven't changed any settings...
I don't really see it as 'altering the car' I see it more as a 'product recall' from the manufacturer to fit the 'improved' Windows 8.1

    Use another browser.
    Opera 16 is good.
    IE isn't good.

I have a huge collection of very small (8x8 to 16x16) images that I need to look through. It would be nice if I could see each picture zoomed in to a larger size, since it is hard to make out the detail with the naked eye. However, when I try to zoom in using Windows Explorer, the displayed size of...
I never had this problem until I began using a laptop with Windows 8.1 installed. I use Google Chrome as my browser. When I go to a website sometimes there can be an email address that I am suppose to be able to click on causing a window to open so I can send an email immediately to that person...
Hi, I have a laptop running Windows 8.1 and I want to share the media on my pc to my Samsung television. I checked all the settings several times, but the laptop is not visible on my tv. My second laptop, running Windows 7 is visible; I can share media to my tv without problems. Has anyone got...
Viewing Word 97 files? in Software and Apps
Hi folks, I have a need for inspecting a huge batch of files created by Word 97. They mostly consist of a complex mixture of figures that (I've been told) on the original Word 97 were all ordered into columns (but no *tables* format was used). On my Windows 8.1, I have Kingsoft Writer installed...

PDF viewing and creation in Software and Apps
One of the first things that I noticed about Windows 8 is that it now has native support for viewing PDF files, like the Mac OS. However, the functionality seems extremely limited. For many years now I have found programs like Adobe Acrobat and Nitro PDF indispensable at home and at work. Adobe...
What to use for TV viewing? in Software and Apps
Hello all! I'm planning on finally buying a TV tuner card for my puter since the pros for that outweighed the cons. But, I hate using Windows Media Center. That was one of the cons of a TV tuner card actually. It's designed to work with remote controls better in my opinion than a mouse. I really...
