Hi everyone. I want to update my website with a few little things. I want to try windows 8 but cannot seem to find out how to use it like I did with 7. Can anyone guide me in the right direction please. Thanks everyone.
PS. forgot to say that I was using File Zilla but the web pages do not work when I download them to update content.

Since, I build and maintain websites, I think I understand what you are trying to say; however, I would just like to clarify your situation:

So, you are using Filezilla to FTP your website's pages back to your PC and then you intend to upload them after modification and/or correction. Am I right so far? However, once you have them downloaded, you can't seem to find an editor that is inherent to Windows 8; correct? IF so, the only way you'll be able to do that without a third-party application is to open the htm/html file and edit it like a text file or you can download a 3rd-party application to give you a WYSIWYG interface:

Here is the one I use:

KompoZer - Easy web authoring

Once all your edits are done, you can FTP them back to your website. Good luck and I hope this information helps you.

See my previous post. I am using Kompozer on Win 8.1 and it works perfectly. What is your skill level? Can you use a WYSIWYG interface effectively or do you require a step by step wizard to make changes? What were you using on Windows 7 that worked? Please provide a bit more detail in your responses because I am also an amateur dentist and I don't want to pull the wrong tooth.

I used to use a free to use website editor but cannot find one now to work in windows 8.

I use Expression Web 4, which is/was a part of Expression Studio. Microsoft put a lot of work into this program, then for whatever reason, decided to discontinue development and make it free. However, this is one heckuva program that will do pretty much whatever you want to do. You can get it at Download Microsoft Expression Web 4 (Free Version) from Official Microsoft Download Center

Since I haven't populated this Windows 8.1 half of my dual boot machine yet, I downloaded and installed EW 4 to be sure it is compatible and I believe it is.

The Expression Web forum is here if you have questions or answers.

Msdn forums - Expression Web and SuperPreview

It's a great place to learn . . . also you'll find links to a lot of other helpful sites. Somewhat like here, but not nearly as great. :)

Using Expression Web here as well. And Filezilla, no problems with it.

HI, I used File Zilla in windows 7. My skill level is nil when it comes to code. I can alter the site when I get it on the computer. It is on a file in the computer but I don't mess about with that in case I mess it up so just let the program do it. I am just on trying that program out now. A step by step guide would be good as it can only help.

First, Expression Web 4 is sort of a wysiwyg, but not entirely. If you make an error, it will tell you.

I have two books: Expression Web 4 Step by Step (by Chris Leeds) and Expression Web 4 in 24 hours (by Morten Rand-Hendricksen)

Then there's the w3schools.com site, which is invaluable. It's free and you can learn almost anything about web building.

I wholeheartedly agree! Since it seems that HTML 5 is off and running, I'd learn that instead of any of the past HTML versions. And CSS 3 also.

Hi all, I have downloaded Microsoft expression4. I have just been trying to alter a few easy things on my site. I like the way you can alter the words on the screen and in another box it shows you the coding for it. I see that I have a couple of hyperlinks missing on some photos so I will be trying to get them in place. Once I have looked around the tabs at the top and messed about a bit it did not seem to scary. I would like to learn HTML but I think I am a bit long in the tooth to take it all in. I will keep watching the changes on the code as I alter things and maybe pick up stuff from there.
Thank you to everyone for, firstly giving me a couple of free to use programs and secondly for giving me a few sites to go to learn about how to build a site.

Racoon, if you're going to build more than the one website, or even try to make it better, you really need to know a little HTML. If you poke around the w3schools.org site, you'll pick up a lot.

You're doing exactly as I did when I started using Expression Web back on version 2. Interesting how well it tutors us. :)

Hi everyone. Just an update to my website updating. I have been using "Microsoft Expression 4" and I am getting used to it a bit now. Although I have done only a few small edits to my site including adding a photo I am finding it a bit easier as I go along. My next job will be to add an extra page to the site. Can I thank everyone for giving me really good advice and help on this matter. You have got me back working on my web site again.
Thank you.
