question about Windows 8.1 mail app

Can anyone answer why this behavior is happening?

I have an email account with Yahoo. It's set up in the Mail app (IMAP). I sent an email to a colleague from the Windows 8.1 Mail app. It went through properly. He received my email. The Sent folder contains the email that was sent.

Later, on a different PC, I logged into the traditional Yahoo web email interface. I couldn't find the email! It wasn't in the sent folder through the sent folder. It appears that the email is only on my own PC inside the Mail app!

What the heck is happening? Isn't the Mail app supposed to be a 1:1 reflection of the Yahoo mail on the Yahoo server?

Check under settings and then accounts

At the bottom of this page there might be a section for special folders (sent, deleted), On one of my IMAP accounts these default to local, nothing showing in the box, change it using the drop down and all works as it should

I don't know why this affects some IMAP accounts and not others

thanks for the response.

okay, went back to the settings and all the special folder fields were blank. I decided to fill them in from the dropdown menu (sent for sent, deleted for deleted, etc.).

Still no change. I'm wondering if there's some kind of refresh I can do or I just wait it out for the automatic refresh.

Not sure how often it syncs them (should be almost instant for imap I thought), but if you right click on the page while viewing your mail folders at the bottom right is an option for More, click this and there should be an option for sync

Just done a test with mine

Having the folder set to Sent instead of blank has made it work

However it took about 10 minutes to get mail into it, doing a manual sync didn't seem to force it

I'm having this exact same problem. Also with Yahoo Mail. Though initially it was doing it on all three of my email accounts (Yahoo, VirginMedia (GMail), and iCloud).

I tried asking a Microsoft 'LiveSupport' person, be she was no help what-so-ever ("look, see, it's there in your 'Sent' folder, so it must be a problem with your webmail settings, pay us money and we'll fix it for you").

Then I tried uninstalling and re-installing the Mail App.

That worked.

For a while.

But then, though my VirginMedia and iCloud accounts were working normally, the Yahoo account was back to not saving sent mail to the server.

Nothing I did made any difference. I tried re-entering the imap/smtp details. I tried re-entering my password.

However, I've now tried re-creating the account, but using the 'Other account' option and entering the generic imap/smtp details, instead of the winmetro specific ones that get put in if you use the Yahoo! option.

So far, fingers crossed, this appears to be working.

I suspect it won't continue working for very long though...

yeah, if you ever figure it out, let me know! :)

it sucks because I do most mail at my desktop but when I'm away from the desktop and I need to check mail in the sent box, I'm stuck because the mail is on my desktop. This shouldn't be happening with web mail and IMAP.
