My browser of choice is Firefox but I have the same problems in Chrome also. First a little background. I'm running Windows 8.1 for the last month (thanks to TECHNET) and up until 1 week ago I had Roadrunner light with download speeds around 9 to 10 Mbps. Last week I upgraded to higher speed Roadrunner and am now getting download speeds of around 35 Mbps consistantly.

Now my problem: Several forum pages that I frequent USED to load instantly and when clicking on a post would load instantly. Now certain pages may take up to 45 seconds to 1 minute or sometimes not at all. This happens most of the time but not all the time. This happens whether I'm using Firefox, Chrome or IE. I have cleared cookies, history, search, cashe in an attempt to solve this problem.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what my problems are? Thanks in advance.

I've been affected by pretty much the same issue. After doing a bit of research, I've found my current router is not working well with 8.1 due to the way dns is handled.

There may be other routers/modems that may be affected, but what I've done to fix the issue temporarily.

Go to Control Panel, select Network and Internet.

Select Network and Sharing, then select Change Adaptor Settings to the left of the window.

I use WiFi, so I Right clicked on WiFi, and selected properties.

Double click on Internet Protocol Version 4 in the list.

Tick the Use The following DNS server addresses.

I used Google's public DNS addresses.

Preferred DNS server : 8.8.8.8
Alternate DNS server : 8.8.4.4

Hopefully this helps you out a bit.

According to my ISP, there is a fix to be rolled out for the modem I am currently using, so this is just a temporary fix. I'm pretty sure there are others that are affected as well.

Mine is not wireless, strictly a wired Ethernet connection. My DNS server doesn't show any numbers, nor does the Alternate.

Then follow the above for the Ethernet adaptor.

Mine didn't have any addresses either, the fields were blank.

Brighthouse tech came out to the house today and changed out the modem. I'm now getting 35-36 Mbps download speeds and pages load instantly. Funny though, the old modem would get the same DL speed but pages just wouldn't load correctly. Oh well, at least my problems are over for now.
