it seems, that windows 8 is ignoring the default internet browser, because if i click a link (not in a browser) it opens IE 9 for default, i've tried to change Google chrome to the default, but it still ignores it.

I had the problem. Finally did it the old fashioned way! Control panel - default programs - Set your default program.
If that doesn't work for you, in the same section, change the associates to Chrome

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.
I have set the .url extension to use Chome, but links in email (outlook) still open in IE. In the Protocols section below Extensions, HTTP and HTTPS are set to IE, however if you try to change these, you are only given the option of IE, or Look for an app in the store. How can I choose Chrome for this as well? It is driving me nuts having my links open in IE. ahhhh

Hi there
This apparently works for XP and W7 -- in theory should work for W8 too. Haven't tested this as I'm quite happy with IE but here's the link.

Takk, Jimbo, but I tried that many times. It doesn't work. I think it is a matter of my browser (CoolNovo) not being ready for Metro or something like that.
