I cannot launch the Internet Explorer in Windows 8. It immediatly responds with the message "Internet Explorer has stopped working."

What to do?

Can't be launched from Metro or Desktop ?

When you click the "e" icon, just an error message or does it launch to permit a reset as detailed by Brink ?

In that case, you might see if turning off, OK, restart PC, turn on, OK, restart PC for Internet Explorer in Windows Features may help.

If not, then you may need to refresh Windows 8.

Also, recommend you check the Event Viewer in Control Panel to try to determine the cause and do research on the error code.

No worries. I was referring to doing that with the listed Internet Explorer option in Windows Features. :)

Control Panel/Admin Tools/Event Viewer

Had a look into theEvent Viewer, and there was a tremendous amont of error indications and warnings that I cannot iterprete. However, as far as I understood, the warnings were all connected to some maintenance actions on a databasecache, operations that had not been fully accomplished which obviously could have serious effects on the performance.

Have you ran a scan with your antivirus ?

Personally, I would do a system refresh as outlined by Brink above. This will save your files and return your system to default settings


Settings/Change PC Settings/Refresh (scroll down to see Refresh option)
