None of my browsers will work after BIOS update.

Hey guys. I have been on the line with HP tech support for over an hour and I have gotten pretty much nowhere (big surprise). Anyways, I was having overheating problems with my pc. Tech support said I needed to update my BIOS. Piece of cake. Computer boots back up, BSOD. Alright, well whatever, restart her again, working fine. Go to open up chrome. Chrome crashes. Open up Mozilla, Mozilla crashes. Open up IE. IE crashes. Open up IE in metro ui. Works. I have absolutely no idea what is causing this problem. Tech support told me to roll back the BIOs, but I'm not going to do that because I will have overheating problems again. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Chrome and Mozilla to no avail. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome. I am going to be doing some poking around myself.

Alright, if I choose a selective boot, with system services and startup items selected it will work.

The overheating issue is not and shouldn't be BIOS related. It's something physical, hardware related.....eg...clogged heatsink/fan, exhaust ports clogged with lent/debris, fan not working at all.

First I would blow out all the exhaust ports and vents, then get chillpad/cooler for the laptop....I always use one at home with my laptop. Then I would roll back the BIOS, then check to see if you over heating issue remains.

It's brand new. The bios was having problems controlling the fan. It would freeze and only then would the fan speed pick up

If it's brand new, It should not happen with over heating. I suspect the heat sink on the CPU was not seated properly causing the Laptop to over heat.

Since it is a brand new system and still under warranty, I would exchange for another one.

It's fine now. HP said it was a BIOS problem. It is a laptop.

Yes. For some reason turning selective boot on, re starting it, and then turning it off and re starting fixed the problem. I have no idea what caused this problem

Okay, so in older versions of Windows, you could boot BIOS from not only starting up the system, but also from exiting hibernation mode. In the new Windows 8.1, I haven't found a way to do that. According to my readings, the new BIOS is only available upon a full hard shut-down, and NOT from...
