Windows 8 IE 10 (All recent updates)
Like to watch wood working videos on Youtube. No problems before today ,now they will not play. Been reading and some mention of ActiveX and Flashplayer settings. I have done now changes to any settings since all was working fine. What should I be looking at to fix ?

Running firefox? They just added a add-on to use HTML5 instead of flash for browser. Check the Alt-Tools-Add-ons for YouTube. I had to disable it to avoid getting a really annoying dialog box every time I would try to play a video.

EDIT: Shoot, just read that you are using IE... Well, still, heh.

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
Checked and ActiveX filtering was unchecked so clicked it on. Video still not playing. If I slide the time button along on the bottom of video I see still pictures but video not playing

Tried another video said Flash Player 9.0 or greater is required. You have no flash plugin installed
Yet Adobe says I have Flash player 11.8.800.175 installed

Make sure you have the latest version of flash installed - Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player And make sure you un-tick the optional stuff, or else you get more than just flash. In short make damn sure you read what's being installed. Adobe has gotten sneaky about installing stull like "Toolbar" and other crap.

With that, you still need to make sure you have the latest version of flash, just make sure it's flash and nothing else.

Edit I just read where you posted you have flash. That said, click Tools, Manage add-ons, make sure Toolbars and Extensions is highlighted and make sure Shockwave Flash Object is Enabled

Yes gone to Tools, Manage add-ons, settings Under Microsoft Windows 3rd party component is "Shockwave Flash Object " and is enabled. I does not say Adobe Systems Incorporated as in yours

It should. If it doesn't perhaps you should look into it.

I was having problems today with mine all of a sudden. The solution I found was to turn off the browser add-on I had installed called Youtube Center. Might not be your problem but maybe it helps someone. Good luck.

How is that fixing the OP's issue with Internet Explorer?

@ OP, what website is it that's not playing videos? Name?

Also, what version of Windows 8 are you running? Is it still the Preview version?

Torre did that and now IE10 not working properly

Sorry to hear, did work for me.

May try to do a refresh of Win8. This will save your files.

What antivirus are you running ? May try to temp disable and see if that helps.

IE install Flash Plugin/Activex via Windows Updates KB as shown in the screen shot.
You can try to uninstall it then re-install it.

  1. Control Panel->Windows Updates->View Updates History->Installed Updates
  2. Click on the update then click uninstall
  3. Run Windows Updates again to re-install it.

Well it appears that my problem "MAY" be fixed. The problem was , from my understanding, not my computer at all, it was my internet provider was having technical problems deep down in their system they called it Possible DNS issues preventing some sites from loading. As of 1:00 pm today I can watch youtube fine and I can get into all my sites that would not work yesterday.

Thanks for all who provided suggestions. My Windows Version 8 is the full version not the preview version

The OP's problem with IE is that they're still using it. I figured the only people who used IE were people who don't know how to install a better browser. lol

I still don't see how that fixes the OP's issue, whether they want to use an alternate browser or not. And there are plenty of people who are well informed but just want to use IE.

Peace
