Solved Does System "Refresh" delete bookmarks etc..?

I did a system refresh earlier because windows media player wasn't working properly.Now all my google bookmarks are gone, but before i did system refresh it said it wouldn't delete any of my personal files? All my music/other media is still there but the only thing that's missing is my bookmarks. help?

Is there anyway i can undo a system refresh?

Hello Art, and welcome to Eight Forums.

This would be because Google Chrome is an installed program (app) that it and all settings would have been removed during a refresh.

IE favorites would not have been removed though.

Luckily, refreshing Windows 8 creates a C:\Windows.old folder that hopefully will still contain your Chrome bookmarks as a bookmarks file in the hidden path below in the C:\Windows.old folder. You should be able to import them back from this location.

I see the windows.old folder but i do not see anything called appdata.

Did you already set to have hidden system files to show using step 2 in Option One below?

google bookmarks are not considered personal files ,thats

mydocuments ,mypictures,mymusic ,myvideo ,you could even loose personal data that is stored elsewhere on the harddrive

Refresh keeps any folders you've added to the root folder of the system drive, and everything in \Users folders, except the \AppData subfolders, which get wiped.

It's listed in your screenshot as the Bookmarks file. That is the file that you need to either copy back into the same location in Windows, to select to import in Chrome using the tutorial below.

what do you mean copy back into same location?

To copy the Bookmarks file in your Windows.old folder in your screenshot into the folder below.

C:\Users\{User Account}\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

I opened the bookmarks.bak file and i was able to recover some of my bookmarks but now it's overwritten /:

What about the Bookmarks file in your screenshot without the .bak extension?

Oh wait they're still there i forgot to click on the windows.old folder! thank you!
